Fair season is right around the corner, which means the state fair and its food are on the mind, deep-fried and delicious! A fan favorite, deep-fried Oreo cookies are incredibly hard to resist! The deep-fried Oreo cookie is also easy enough to make for those that can't wait to get their hands on one, to recreate them at home!

Introduced by Charlie Boghosian, the man dubbed as "Chicken Charlie" or "The Man Who Fries Everything", the deep-fried Oreo cookie was born at the 2002 Los Angeles County Fair. This delectable and indulgent treat can now be found at almost any state fair and carnival.

Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 quarts vegetable oil
  • 18 Oreo cookies
  • 1 cup pancake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • powdered sugar, for dusting

Directions

  1. Place the Oreo cookies in the refrigerator to chill. Next, line a plate with paper towels. Set aside.

  2. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat until it has reached a temperature of 375 degrees on a digital instant-read thermometer.

  3. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk together the pancake mix and water until smooth.

  4. Remove the Oreo cookies from the refrigerator. Using a pair of tongs, dip each Oreo cookie into the pancake batter, coating the entire surface. Carefully lower each coated cookie into the frying oil. Only fry 3-4 cookies at a time to not overcrowd the pot.

  5. Fry each cookie until golden-brown, about 1-2 minutes. Flip, then brown the other side. Remove the cookie with a slotted spoon to the paper-towel-lined plate before serving. Serve immediately with a dusting of powdered sugar.

What Is A Deep Fried Oreo Cookie?

A deep-fried Oreo cookie consists of a melty Oreo cookie creme center, hugged by warm golden-brown fried dough. Traditionally, a chocolate Oreo cookie is used for the center of the tasty, sweet dessert. For a delicious twist, try golden Oreos, carrot cake Oreos, fudge-covered Oreos, white chocolate fudge covered Oreos, double stuffed Oreos, or peanut butter Oreos.
