The art of invention is all about making life easier, often by consolidating two everyday tasks into one. That’s exactly what British inventor Colin Furze did when he created a knife that cuts and toasts bread at the same time. Inspired by a scene from the movie “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” Furze used a few kitchen and hardware tools to create a working toaster-knife.
To construct the knife, Furze used a modified microwave transformer, copper pipes, and wiring to run a current through a saw blade. The current superheats the blade, allowing it to toast the surface of the bread it is slicing.
