Just when we thought 2018 couldn’t get any weirder than the Tide Pod Challenge, KFC recently came out with three gravy-based cocktails. You heard me. Three. Gravy. Cocktails.
Look, it definitely sounds weird. But when you really, truly think about it, is it that far off from the savory Bloody Marys we drink with our Sunday afternoon brunch? Some might say, “Yes, absolutely, don’t let those gravy concoctions touch me with a ten-foot pole.” But savory-toothed salt lovers might disagree.
The cocktail recipes have been released on the heels of the “stocktails” trend, savory cocktails that feature a bone broth base. It’s like drinking soup and getting tipsy all at the same time. Multi-tasking, if you will.
But have these gravy cocktails gone too far? We’ll let you decide. Here are KFC’s three recipes.
Behold the “Gravy Mary”…
…the “Fingerlickin’ Sour”…
…and the “Southern Twist”.
Marion Racine, the marketing manager for KFC, told The Independent, “We know our gravy is good enough to drink — so with stocktails being a real hit at the moment, what better ingredient to take them to the next level?”
And while “good enough to drink” is often used as an exaggeration, perhaps a small dose in an otherwise boozy drink could provide the cocktail with the perfect amount of savory balance. But who knows? Since KFC restaurants are not licensed to sell alcohol, these recipes are suggestions rather than official menu items, which means we’ll have to make these cocktails ourselves.
So why not grab a bucket of Colonel Sanders’ cough syrup and add a splash to your evening libations? You might be surprised.
