  • 15 Waking Up Hacks For Every Non-Morning Person

For those of us who aren't prone to mornings, waking up can be one of the most difficult parts of the day. There are actually a lot of things you can do to make getting out of bed easier. Try these out and see which works best for you.

Use An Alarm That Forces You To Get Up

If you hit the snooze button at least three times every morning, try a new alarm clock that will be sure to wake you up. Whether it is Clocky the double wheeled clock that rolls around your room and forces you to find it in order to turn off the alarm, the Rocket Launch alarm that shoots off somewhere in your room and will not shut off until you find the rocket and bring it back to its base, or the Shape Up alarm clock which is shaped like a dumbbell and makes you do thirty reps before turning off, you will be sure to find the clock that will bring you to your feet.

    Train Habits

They say if you do something for fifteen days in a row it will become a habit. So the moment you open your eyes, drink a glass of water. If you try to go back to sleep, chances are you’ll need to pee very soon.

    Organization Is The Key

Part of the reason we all hate mornings is that rushed feeling. Get your clothes out the night before. Make lunch ahead of time and have a specific place to put all of your belongings so you’re not checking the freezer for your car keys. You’ll be less resistent to mornings once you make them less stressful.

    Treat Yourself

Set your clock an hour earlier than you normally would and take a luxurious bath rather than a quick shower. Drink a cup of coffee or tea while reading a book, rather than juggling your drink, your keys, and whatever else while you rush to the car. You’re sure to have a happier and less stressful day.

    Change Your Evening Environment

As tempting as it can be to watch TV and fall asleep during your favorite show, restful sleep it does not make. So take the television out of your room, leave the laptop, the cellphone, and whatever other media device you have by the door and read a book or a magazine instead.

    Morning Sex

Is that a blush I see? Don’t be embarrassed, morning sex is a great way to wake you up. Not only does it burn calories, kick start your metabolism, and build up your metabolism, but it will also leave you in a good mood all day. Friends and coworkers will be dying to know why you woke up with that smile.

    Exercise

It’s impossible to go for a walk around the block and still be half asleep when you’re done. So not only does it get you out of bed, but you’ll be healthier and in better shape. Isn’t that what we all really want?

    Healthy Breakfast

Yes, I am aware that just eating a Poptart or forgoing breakfast is easier and sometimes less stressful than having to prepare food, but a nice healthy breakfast will wake you up faster and have you feeling prepared and ready for the day ahead of you. Want something fast? Slice an avocado the night before and either put a few slices on a piece of toast with an egg, or just add salt and pepper.

    Preset Your Coffee Maker

If you have a coffee maker that has a preset option, go ahead and set it to brew a few minutes before you need to wake up. Everyone loves the smell of fresh coffee, right? So not only will it coax you out of bed, but that is already one less thing you need to do!

    Have A Reward In Mind

Wake up to do something you love each day. Jobs and school can be stressful and they often make you wish you didn’t have to get up in the morning. Plan something that you look forward to, even if it’s only watching a rerun of your favorite show around lunch time.

    Get Outside

When you’re indoors you want to rest, so go outside! Drink that cup of coffee outside and watch nature. Laugh at all the cars going by and be grateful you don’t have to leave that early.

    Embrace The Sun

Natural sunlight is healthy for you and will wake your body up in more pleasant way. Go ahead and throw up open those curtains. A sunny day is bound to wake everyone up with a smile.

    Or Use A Light Alarm

The sun wakes you up because of the light that makes your body think it’s time to wake up. Using an alarm/light combo like this one will work to wake you up the same way if you don’t have windows and can’t be bothered to actually get yourself up.

Have A Baby, Or Get A Pet

Ok, so maybe a baby is not the first thing you should do if you only need help getting up in the morning, but it is true that children do keep you from sleeping in! A better method, however, would be to get a pet. If you walk your dog and feed him every morning then he will be the first to let you know that you have been in bed for far too long. Soon, you won’t even need one of those old fashioned alarm clocks anymore!

Get Enough Rest During The Night

I know, I know, it’s easier than it sounds, but it’s best that you try to get at least nine hours of sleep every night. Try to get everything done earlier in the evening rather than waiting until the last minute.

Don’t Look At Blue Light At Night

Most people think they’re getting their 8 hours of sleep per night, but actually they’re tricking their bodies into getting much less. Staring at a computer or phone screen emitting tons of light right before you go to sleep will make your body take an extra 30 minutes or much longer depending on the person to actually get to the sleep it needs.

    JFDI

AKA Just F-ing Do It. It’s tough, but if you learn to force yourself out of bed without pressing the snooze button it will become easier and easier for you. You might not believe me, but believe in your own will power.
