The days of the glazed donut are OVER. From cereal and pieces of candy to piles of BBQ and bacon, donuts have become customized with a wide array of toppings. The crazier they are, the better! You HAVE to try these truly strange donut creations.
Old Dirty Bastard
To the chocolate and peanut butter fanatic, this one’s for you. The Old Dirty Bastard from VooDoo Doughnuts in Portland, Oregon is a combination of chocolate frosting topped with Oreos and drizzled peanut butter.
Easy Peasy Lemon Kesey
Another VooDoo masterpiece, this psychedelic creation is known as the Easy Peasy Lemon Kesey. They’re lemon flavored donuts with a sour chewy cube in the middle for a little acid kick. It’s like you’re back in 1970!
A play on the popular television show “Breaking Bad,” the Blue Sky donut can be found at Rebel’s Donuts in New Mexico. These donuts are topped with blue rock candy that looks like crystal meth. Yum!
Crickets are protein too, right? Psycho Donuts brought out this interesting donut for National Donut Day back in 2012. The Chirp Derp, as its known, is a chocolate donut topped with bacon bits, bacon-cheddar crickets and a drizzle of milk chocolate.
This alcohol-inspired donut might not get you drunk, but it does have a unique combination that might just give you the buzz you’re looking for. The Jager Bomb donut is filled with Jager buttercream and topped with Red Bull glaze. Get your Jager Bomb donut from Rebel Donuts in New Mexico.
On the other hand, if beer is more your style, this Beer Nutz donut from Psycho Donuts will be right up your alley. No, it doesn’t just get it’s name from the beer nuts on top; this donut is actually filled with a Rogue Mocha Porter pastry cream. Oh, and chocolate…you can’t forget the chocolate.
What’s better than The King of Rock and Roll? A custard-filled donut made just for The King himself, topped with bacon, peanut butter, jelly and bananas. Who knows — you may just spot Elvis at Psycho Donuts picking one up too.
Psycho Easter Treats
Next Easter, try a treat that’s a little different. The Peep Show from Psycho Donuts is a donut topped with a coconut nest where two candy eggs rest with a mother Peep warming them. However, if you want a little more gore on Easter, the Massive Peep Trauma also has a bloody baby Peep coming out of an egg-shaped donut.
‘Cause when you combine S’mores and Oreos together, something magical is bound to happen. Another Psycho Donut creation, this donut is covered with marshmallow, chocolate icing, graham crackers and (of course!) Oreos.
There’s nothing better in the summertime than sipping on a ice-cold Arnold Palmer by the pool. Well, with this donut from Psycho Donuts, you can get the best of both worlds. The Arnold Palmer is a vegan cake donut infused with iced tea and topped with lemonade icing.
The Round Rock
If you prefer a classic glazed donut but still want to step out of your comfort zone, you need to try The Round Rock from Round Rock Donuts. This two pound donut is definitely the best (and probably worst) thing you could eat.
Bacon Maple Bar
For a while now, the combination of maple and bacon sure has been a popular one. Well, VooDoo Doughnuts played on this combination and made it into a donut topped with maple frosting and slices of bacon. The Rogue’s VooDoo Doughnut Maple Bacon Ale can actually date its roots back to this donut.
Another odd combination of flavors, the Foie Gras donut has foie gras (which is the liver of a duck or goose) and jam stuffed inside. “Food Network Star” Justin Warner has definitely taken donuts to a whole new level with this one at his restaurant Do or Dine.
Captain, My Captain
A kid favorite from VooDoo Doughnuts, this vanilla frosted donut is topped with Captain Crunch cereal. Not only is it bright and colorful, but it combines two of the best breakfast foods.
This donut just goes to show that Austin, Texas upholds its slogan of “Keep Austin Weird.” The food truck Gourdoughs makes this donut piled high with pulled pork, potato salad and honey BBQ drizzle.
There’s something about pineapple and basil that just doesn’t seem to fit. But Rise (located in Durham, North Carolina) decided to give this unique combination a try. The Pineapple Basil donut is filled with basil cream and topped with pineapple glaze and crushed pistachios.
Another one of Gourdough’s meaty favorites is the Porkey’s donut. It is coated with a heaping amount of cream cheese, Canadian bacon and jalepeno jelly. Wow!
A Hawaiian favorite, the Poi is made in the Kamehameha Bakery in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Poi gets its purple color from the mix of taro root and water.
VooDoo Doll Doughnut
Although VooDoo Doughnuts is known for its crazy donut flavors, the power house of them all has to be the VooDoo Doll Doughnut. This donut is shaped like a voodoo doll and can even be dressed up as brides and grooms for weddings.
Memphis Mafia Doughnut
This may just look like a pile of cavities, but the Memphis Mafia Doughnut is one you definitely need to try! You’ll need to take a seat for this one: its topped with banana chunks, cinnamon, chocolate frosting, peanut butter, peanuts AND chocolate chips.
Gooey Butter Cake
This donut from Strange Donuts plays on a St. Louis favorite: the classic gooey butter cake. It tastes just like the real thing, if not better!
Chicken and Waffles
Its name says it all for this Strange Donut creation. Everyone knows that chicken and waffles are better in donut form. (And drenched in maple syrup.)
If you thought the Chicken and Waffle donut was strange, things just got a whole lot weirder with the Hot Burger. It’s literally a burger inside of a donut; you have to try this donut from Strange Donuts!
