  • 13 Reasons Why Fall Is The Best Season For Superfoods

    by Kelsey Stoskopf

Fall isn't just about pumpkins. There are plenty of fruits and vegetables harvested in the fall season that are packed full of vitamins, nutrients and other healthy properties. To top it off, these fruits and vegetables can be made into delicious dishes.

    Pears

Bite into this juicy fruit this fall. You’ll also love poached or baked pears for a warm twist on this fruit. And to top it all off, they’re packed with four grams of fiber per serving!

    Apples

Everyone loves apple picking in the fall, so why not join the crowd. Full of fiber, the possibilities with apples are endless.

    Pumpkin

Of course it’s not fall without pumpkins. Whether you’re making pies, cookies, pudding or just eating the seeds, pumpkin is the true definition of fall. And it  is full of vitamins and fiber as well!

    Squash

Winter squash has a slightly sweeter flavor compared to its summer counterpart. A good source of omega-3 fatty acids, winter squash can be cut up and roasted, made into pasta or tossed in your favorite winter soup.

    Cauliflower

The possibilities with cauliflower are endless. You can steam it like broccoli or mashed it up for a low carb mashed potato. You’ll love this veggie!

    Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes scream fall and it’s not just because of their color. With a harvest season between September and December, these potatoes are much healthier than those starchy white potatoes you’re used to. They are a good source of vitamins and have anti-inflammatory properties. Whether you roast them or create twice baked sweet potatoes, you’ll love them!

    Dates

Amp up your daily fiber by eating dates. This fruit is perfect in salads or stews. You can even try them stuffed with cream cheese or almonds. Yum!

    Turnips

Don’t give turnips a bad name just yet. The roots are a good source of Vitamin C and the leaves are packed with vitamins A and K. You can flavor them with a variety of ingredients including bread crumbs or brown sugar. Give these tender turnips a try.

    Kiwi

Kiwis aren’t just for the beach. It’ll feel just like summer (well, almost) when you incorporate this fresh fruit into your fall meals. The harvest season is September through March so don’t forget to add this potassium and vitamin C rich fruit into your diet.

    Tangerines

Tangerines are a sweet citrus fruit that will give you a summer-like feeling in the fall months. Juice them with oil, vinegar and ginger for a dressing you’ll love!

    Pomegranates

This unique fruit’s juice is known as an antioxidant powerhouse. From marinades to dressings, you can use pomegranates to flavor many dishes. Pomegranate juice is considered to have more antioxidants than red wine.

    Brussel Sprouts

Brussel sprouts get a bad wrap, but we’re here to vouch for them! They are a great source of vitamin K and iron so try to incorporate these veggies into your fall dishes.

    Grapefruit

Tart and tangy, grapefruits have more than 75 percent of your daily recommended intake of vitamin C. Whether you eat them plain, drink their juice or mixed them in a salad, grapefruits are the perfect fall fruit.
