  • 15 Different Ways People Drink Coffee Around The World

    by Kelsey Stoskopf
    Jacob Lund

From the infamous Pumpkin Spice Latte to ice cream-like frappes, coffee in the United States is far different from other popular coffee combinations from around the world. Whether it's egg yolks, a multitude of spices or a rich tradition, coffee takes on a different taste as you venture around the world.

    Austria

Austrians drink their coffee with an egg yolk, sugar and cognac. Known as a kaisermelange, or “the emperor’s blend,” it’s the popular way to drink dark coffee. People sometimes mix the egg yolk with milk and sugar.

    New Zealand And Australia

The popular flat white in New Zealand and Australia is a drink that’s in between a cappuccino and a latte. It’s made with a double shot of espresso and steamed milk.

    Mexico

Cafe de Olla, pot coffee, is a sweetened, spiced coffee that Mexicans love. The dark roast coffee is paired with a cinnamon stick, orange peel and dark brown sugar.

    France

The French love their traditional Cafe au Lait. The drink is a simple mixture of equal parts brewed coffee and steamed milk.

    Turkey

Of course Turkey is known for its Turkish coffee. Although it takes quite a bit of work, Turkish coffee is well worth it.

    Spain

Cafe Bombon is a coffee for those who love their coffee a little on the sweet side. It is simply a mixture of equal parts strong coffee with sweetened condensed milk.

    Vietnam

Vietnam loves its egg coffee. Beat two egg yolks with a half teaspoon of condensed milk, honey and vanilla extract until fluffy. Top with hot, black coffee for the perfect drink.

    USA

The most popular coffee in the United States isn’t a PSL, it’s a Gibraltar. It’s simply a double shot of espresso, topped with a shot of steamed milk and served in a Gibraltar glass. One quick gulp is all you need for this espresso shooter.

    Germany

The Germans know how to drink coffee. Their popular coffee is a mixture of dark coffee, rum and sugar, topped with whipped cream. Yum!

    Finland

Finland does it unlike any other. They place a piece of cheese at the bottom of a cup and pour the coffee on top of the cheese, known as Kaffeost. Once you’re done drinking the coffee, you eat the cheese with a spoon.

    Italy

Lemons aren’t just paired with tea in Italy. Espresso Romano, the popular coffee drink in Italy, is served with a slice of lemon to help bring out the sweeter flavors of the espresso.

    Greece

Frappes are the go-to coffee drink in Greece. And no, not the ice-cream like frappes we’re used to from Starbucks. In Greece, they’re made with instant coffee, sugar and water whisked into a foam.

    Japan

What’s better than a perfect cup of joe? A canned cup of joe you can get from shops and even vending machines. It’s easy, it’s tasty and it’s served hot or cold.

    Ethiopia

Ethiopians don’t just drink coffee, they make a ceremony out of it. The ceremony involves roasting the beans, grinding the beans, brewing, straining and serving the coffee.

    Morocco

Cafe des Espices is a coffee drink blended with a variety of spices. The spices, such as sesame seeds, black pepper and nutmeg are mixed with the coffee beans and ground to create a coffee that’s one of a kind.
