  • 13 Genius Ways To Open A Bottle Of Wine Without A Corkscrew

Let's be honest, you always have a wine bottle around the house, but sometimes the most important part, the corkscrew, is hard to find. Well, whenever you lose that pesky corkscrew, these other handy objects are here to save the day. From common tools to a full blown torch, here are some ways to open your bottle of wine without a corkscrew!

    Use a screw and pliers.

First twist the screw into the cork of the bottle of wine. Once the screw is in there about halfway, grab a pair of pliers and pull the screw out with the cork attached. Be sure to twist the screw upwards as you pull with the pliers.

A hammer and nails works just as well!

If you're handy with tools then you should try this method to really impress. Nail a few small nails diagonally into the cork on the wine bottle. Once nailed in, use the other end of the hammer to pull the nails out. To help the cork come out, twist the bottle as you're pulling on the nails.

But, if you don’t have tools, a knife works too.

Push the blade of the knife down into the cork making sure it's securely in there. Once in place, twist and pull the knife out bringing the cork with it. How simple is that?!

Grab a shoe and nearby wall.

Yes, this actually works! Put the bottle of wine in a shoe (the bottom of the bottle in the shoe) and hit against a sturdy wall until the cork pops out. Make sure not to spill all your wine though!

Or, you could use a towel against the wall too.

If you don't have a shoe nearby for some reason, use a towel instead. Wrap the towel around the bottom of the wine bottle and hit against a sturdy wall until the cork comes out. Again, be careful to not spill the wine! That would be a tragedy!

Surprisingly a bike hook works too.

Twist the bike hook into the cork of the wine bottle. Once in place, twist in the opposite direction to pull the cork out.

Everyone has at least one key, so why not use it to open your wine bottle.

Use any key on your key ring to open that pesky bottle of wine. Insert the key diagonally until it is firmly in the cork. Use the key to start lifting the cork out and then hold onto the cork as you twist it out.

If all else fails, you can just push the cork in the bottle with a screwdriver.

It's as simple as it sounds. Just use a screwdriver to push the cork into the bottle of wine.

Or a toothbrush does the trick too.

Instead of a screwdriver, you can use a toothbrush too. Just keep pushing the tooth brush down on the cork until it pops in the bottle.

    Use a piece of string.

This one is a little more complicated. Use a screwdriver to create a hole in the cork. Then, take a piece of string and tie a knot at the end of it. Really shove the knot into the hole on the cork, then yank it back out. Make sure to hold onto the bottle when you do this!

If you find yourself without a knife, key or tools, scissors will do too.

Scissors can be used to push the cork into the bottle, or you can dig the scissors in the cork and pull it out as well. Whichever works for you!

Use that book you’ve never read to open your wine.

Like the shoe and towel method, use a book instead. Place a book against a sturdy wall and then hit the bottom of the wine bottle against it. The cork should pop out.

If you find yourself thinking you’re a badass, use a blow torch.

This one may be a little dangerous, but hey, it works. Use a blow torch on the neck of the bottle. Hot air expands, which will push the cork out.
