It's sexist to think that women only enjoy romantic movies and men only like action movies, but even if you're into horror and he's into animated movies, it can be difficult to agree on something to watch. Rotating who gets to pick the movie might work, or it might leave the one who didn't choose snoring. Obviously you should make your spouse watch all your faves and vice versa, but when you've run out of favorite films, it's time for a compromise. I'm pretty sure I was elected to write this post because I am the only OOLA writer without children, so I actually have time to watch movies. Here's a list of 10 movies that you and your husband can enjoy together.

The Rocketeer

This 1991 movie about a stunt pilot who discovers a jetpack prototype is surprisingly low-rated, but it was one of my favorites from childhood. It stars a young Jennifer Connelly, just five years after the Labyrinth came out. (PS I was today years old when I figured out that she isn't the babe with the power, the baby is.) Timothy Dalton, who you may recognize as James Bond from License to Kill, plays the villain Neville Sinclair and Alan Arkin plays the Rocketeer's mechanic sidekick. Rent The Rocketeer for a few bucks on Prime.

Aquaman

Women will love buff merman Jason Momoa, while men will enjoy the non-stop action. Now streaming on HBO.

Any Will Ferrell Movie

Comedy is always a good compromise, and Will Ferrell does it best. Check out our sister site CinemaBlend's list of the best Will Ferrell movies you can stream right now.

Guardians of the Galaxy

This may seem like a dude movie that you're just going to have to suck it up for, but I'm not into sci-fi or comic books and I love this superhero series. It's the Avengers franchise that made Chris Pratt go from Dad bod to hard bod, and now we'll watch him do just about anything for a couple of hours. If you and your man like the ever-popular first volume of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, you can watch the whole shebang: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers Endgame on Disney+. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is due out in 2021.

Knives Out

Here's the synopsis of this hilarious whodunnit sans spoilers: Wealthy crime novelist Harlan Thrombey is found dead. Detective Benoit Blanc (played by Daniel Craig) suspects foul play and the author's family—played by a killer cast including Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, and Toni Collette—are all suspects. This movie will keep you guessing and laughing—it's over-the-top comedy has been compared to Clue (which is another classic both men and women can get down with). This highly rated Agatha Christy-esque mystery/comedy is now available on Prime.

The King of Staten Island

Not to be confused with Pete Davidson's other 2020 movie Big Time Adolescence that just came out on Hulu, The King of Staten Island is a Judd Apatow movie, so you know it's going to be good. As you may be aware, the SNL star's dad was a firefighter who died in 9/11. This endearing comedy-drama is based on Davidson's own experiences. For instance, the 24-year-old character he plays still lives with his mom (played by Marisa Tomei) and Davidson (now 26) lives in his mom's basement IRL. If you haven't seen his stand-up special on Netflix, stream that first.

Bohemian Rhapsody

Did you just start singing the song in your head as you read that? This 2019 movie starring Rami Malek as Queen's lead singer Freddie Mercury is just as catchy as it's namesake tune. The award-winning music biopic follows the meteoric rise of the legendary British rock band in the '70s, Mercury's failed solo stint, and then their epic reunion at the Live Aid benefit concert. (It's not a spoiler if it's history, right?) If you haven't seen this already, find it now on HBO.

The Wrong Missy

I strongly dislike David Spade, but when The Wrong Missy made it to Netflix's trending top 10, I had to see if it was as stupid as it looks. Spoiler alert: it was. It's everything you would expect from a Happy Madison movie, but SNL's Lauren Lapkus stole the show for me. If Netflix hasn't forced you to watch the preview yet, the premise is that a texting mix-up leads to calamitous times at a retreat. Did this made-for-Netflix movie get three stars on Rotten Tomatoes? Yes. Does the lowbrow comedy go well with a doobie? Also yes.

Hustlers

I know how hard it can be to get your man to watch something with an all-female cast, but boys can get on board with JLo, Julia Stiles, Lizzo, and Cardi B., starring as sexy as strippers. Catch this crime drama on Showtime.

Yesterday

Who doesn't like The Beatles? In Yesterday, Jack Malik (played by Himesh Patel) is a struggling singer/songwriter until a mysterious global blackout leading to a freak bus accident leaves him as the only person on the planet who remembers The Beatles. Expect lots of cover songs à la Across the Universe in this rom-com from Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle.
