You always know if you’re standing in the home of someone in the midst of a move. The endless sea of boxes is a dead giveaway. When you’re preparing for a move, your life, it seems, is consumed by boxes.
Moving can be a stressful, difficult time. There are countless tasks to tick off your moving checklist. If you want to make your move easier, it’s a good idea to pack as many things as you can in advance. This is true. But there’s one thing you shouldn’t pack.
Your cleaning supplies.
Trust us. You’ll need those supplies on moving day. The new occupants of your home have every right to expect that they are taking possession of a clean home. And even if you’re a fastidious housekeeper, things tend to get dirty on moving day.
There are endless trips from the house to the moving truck. Even if everyone wears boots and wipes their feet, there’s bound to be a little dirt and debris tracked in. The last thing you want to do is dig rearrange your carefully arranged stack of boxes to retrieve your vacuum and mop from the front of the truck.
Your need for cleaning supplies won’t stop with the floors, either. If you made lunch or breakfast you’ll have to wash your dishes and clean up after yourself in the kitchen. And if you took a shower in the morning you’ll need to clean your bathroom. Let’s face it, even if you didn’t take a shower you’ll still need to clean the bathroom because chances are someone will need to use the toilet.
Don’t put those moving supplies away after you’ve cleaned your house either. You might as well leave them out because you’ll be needing them at your new house, too. You’re going to have the same problem with feet tracking dirt in and out of the house with your boxes and let’s face it, the kitchen and bathroom might need a once over in order to meet your standards.
By now you’re probably wondering just how many cleaning supplies you have to leave out. Most houses have enough cleaning supplies to fill several boxes. The good news is you don’t have to leave all of them out. Pack away the bulk of your cleaning supplies and leave out a few essentials. Here are our suggestions:
