Should You Buy One?
After reading about all of those robot vacuums, you may be asking yourself: “Do I really need one of those fancy, automated vacuum cleaners?” The answer really depends on the individual, but we’ll do our best to make that decision a little easier to make.
Why You Need One
The benefits of robot vacuums are innumerable at this point. Between wi-fi connectivity, automatic charging, real-time mapping, and the ability to program the unit to clean your house when you’re at work or out running errands certainly make life a lot easier. Another advantage of these units is the ability to suck up pet hair, even when the glops of hair find their way under beds, couches, and other pieces of furniture.
If you have a large house that is hard to clean in one run with a traditional vacuum cleaner, programming a weekly cleaning cycle focusing on a couple of rooms each day would make these vacuum cleaners a viable option.
Why You Don’t Need One
On the flip side, however, these units can get expensive — to purchase and to maintain — so you’re going to have to keep that in mind before you purchase a robot vacuum. If you’re strapped for cash or don’t mind vacuuming the old fashioned way, then you’re probably better off sticking with your current setup.
Also, even though these units make vacuuming large houses an easy, automated process, it’s not easy if you have a multi-level home. Most of the vacuums are equipped with anti-collision and anti-fall technology, so they won’t be able to handle stairs. You could buy multiple units for the different levels of your home or move the unit (dock and all) upstairs or downstairs where needed, but that’s defeating the purpose.
How To Make The Decision
If you have a single-story home that you don’t have time to clean, then this buying a robot vacuum is going to be the way to go. If that’s not the case for you, then you’re stuck with your old vacuum.
