Panera Renamed Its Broccoli Cheddar Soup Because Of Chrissy Teigan

Every once in a while something happens that makes you pause and wonder: who’s really calling the shots? The FBI, the CIA, or model and TV host Chrissy Teigen?

How is Chrissy Teigen changing the world as we know it this time? It was all in a tweet. Teigen casually suggested a name change for Panera Bread’s famous broccoli cheddar soup and Panera Bread went ahead and changed it!

It all started when bakery and lunch spot Panera Bread began petitioning the FDA to crack down on competing fast food restaurants’ use of the term “egg” in advertisements. From Panera Bread’s point of view, other chains like Burger King, Taco Bell, and Dunkin’ Donuts using the word “egg” in their ads is dishonest, since the egg patties they serve actually contain more than five ingredients.

Yes I agree only actual eggs should be called eggs and their broccoli cheddar soup should be called delicious cream times

Cue Chrissy Teigen taking Panera Bread’s side on the issue, tweeting to voice her support for the redefine “egg” movement: “Yes I agree only actual eggs should be called eggs and their broccoli cheddar soup should be called delicious cream times”.

That same day, Panera Bread’s official Twitter account responded directly to Teigen, telling her, “Great suggestion @chrissyteigen and we will continue to call you best human in the twittersphere.” In a matter of days, Panera Bread had actually changed the name of one of their most famous and popular soups to “Delicious Cream Times” on their website and had updated the label on their grocery store version.

Great suggestion @chrissyteigen and we will continue to call you best human in the twittersphere.

Like the rest of the world, it’s no surprise Panera Bread would be keen on taking Teigen’s advice, since the model is highly involved in the culinary community. Her first cookbook, Cravings: Recipes for All the Food You Want to Eat was released in 2016 and became a New York Times Bestseller.

Unfortunately, Teigen’s new name for the soup only lasted a few days, and the Panera Bread website has already changed it back to the very boring “Broccoli Cheddar Soup” (which is admittedly a little more descriptive). Still, it’s a little scary just how much power Chrissy Teigen wields with just a tweet.
