    What Is Tartar Sauce?

Tartar sauce is a really simple recipe of just mayonnaise, pickles, lemon, and a few other ingredients.

There are a few variations you can try but if you’re wondering how to make tartar sauce, you needn’t go too far from your own pantry.

    Easy Recipe For Tartar Sauce

This quick recipe will teach you how to make tartar sauce with less than ten ingredients.

    What You’ll Need

    • 1 cup of mayonnaise
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons of lemon juice
    • 2 1/2 teaspoons of pickle relish
    • 1 teaspoon of mustard
    • 1 tablespoon of minced onion
    • Pinch of salt
    • Pinch of ground pepper

    Steps

    • Stir all the ingredients in a bowl.
    • Make sure that the mixture isn’t creamy when you’re done blending everything together. You want the sauce to be finely mixed, but not creamy.
    • … That’s it!

This recipe should give you about 1 1/3 cups of tartar sauce! Store any leftovers in the refrigerator and your tartar sauce should last you for about two weeks.

    Different Ingredients To Try

Like all recipes, you can try different things in the kitchen in order to make tartar sauce your own.

Some recipes call for the inclusion of parsley and Worcestershire sauce while other tartar sauce recipes recommend that you chop your own pickles and skip the chopped onions altogether.

The great thing about tartar sauce is that aside from mayonnaise, pickle, and lemon juice, you can play around with what you’d like to add in. Sprigs of parsley add a touch of bitter seasoning, but some people think that parsley doesn’t have any taste so they might skip it. As we just saw, the distinct taste of onion adds a little something to tartar sauce, while it doesn’t do anything for others.

It’s all about what you’d like to add to your sauce!
