Okay, so you don’t exactly have the time to go out and tap your own maple trees for homemade syrup, and you haven’t found the time to visit your grocery store and grab any of the store-bought kind either. But, you’re in a bind and need a quick and simple maple syrup substitute for your recipe. Never fear because we have a few ingredients you can substitute with in a pinch and you don’t need to go any further than your own pantry.

The taste won’t be exactly the same with these easy swap-outs on account of differences in consistency and overall flavor, but they do just fine when you need to replace maple syrup with something fast.

Honey – 1 cup for every 3/4 cup

Honey is a quick swap, though it’s a little more on the expensive side, so some people opt for other substitutions. However, if you have honey lying around at home you can easily use it as a maple syrup substitute. Overall you’ll notice changes in consistency and taste, and you’ll need to play around with the rations to properly mimic syrup.

Some people like using a 1:1 ratio, but others have followed this formula: for every 3/4 cup of maple syrup you’ll need one cup of honey and 1/2 cup of sugar. Honey is thinner and isn’t as sweet as maple syrup, which is why some people add a bit of sugar to encapsulate the sweetness.

    Molasses – 1 cup for 1 cup

Molasses is a no-brainer replacement for maple syrup and you can swap out one cup of maple syrup for one cup of molasses.

Corn Syrup – 1 cup for 1 cup

This is another simple replacement as all you need to do is follow the 1:1 ratio and you’ll be all set.

White Or Brown Sugar – 1 cup for every 2/3 cup

Sugar is a tricky maple syrup substitute due to several factors: sugar isn’t as sweet as syrup and it’s also a different consistency since maple syrup is a liquid. For every 2/3 cups of maple syrup, you should use 1 cup of sugar. You’ll also need to reduce any wet ingredients in the recipe by about 2-3 tablespoons for every 1/2 cup of maple syrup added and lower the baking temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit.
