Hosting a party or gathering for your friends and family is a terrific way to get everyone under one roof to enjoy the heat and barbecue. But, when peckish guests have nothing to tide them over until the hamburgers and hot dogs are ready, they'll need finger foods that satisfy their hunger and make their mouths water. This summer season you needn't look any further than Caprese skewers to fill stomachs and keep your grocery list on the cheap side.
Depending on how large your party is or how generous you'd like to be with the skewers, there are several different ways to assemble this delicious appetizer. Here's the one we like best because they're bite-sized and you can have 20 of them without anyone judging you.
You can also add the tomatoes, cheese, and basil leaves on their own and then sprinkle them with olive oil and salt and pepper before serving.
If you'd like to add a little something extra to your Caprese skewers then you can add balsamic vinegar or balsamic glaze for a bit of extra flavor.
You can also swap out the grape tomatoes for cherry tomatoes if you'd like. The end result will mostly be the same, but cherry tomatoes are sweeter and will add a different taste. Grape tomatoes have thicker skin so swapping them for cherry tomatoes will also be a little juicier.
You don't need to stick with the bocconcini cheese either! You can swap your bocconcini for buffalo mozzarella for a milder and sweeter taste.
You also have the option of making larger Caprese skewers if you'd like to have a greater amount of cheese on one stick! You can purchase bamboo skewers and arrange the cheese, tomatoes, and basil leaves in the formation listed above.
It's completely up to you how you'd like to serve them and this classic Italian appetizer is a definite way to appease guests!
