    What Is It?

Powdered peanut butter is an amazing new health food inspired by our favorite creamy spread. It’s pressed powdered peanuts with most of the oil and fat removed. Powdered PB has been gaining momentum and popularity in health food circles in the last few years, and we’re here to break it down for you! We will cover the benefits and drawbacks, including nutrition notes, where to find it, recommended brands, and how to use it.

    Benefits

Since a lot of the fat and oil has been removed as mentioned above, powdered peanut butter is naturally lower in fat and calories than traditional PB. Generally, dependent on brand, it can be 80-90% lower in fat! Extra bonus? It contains about 3 grams of healthy fiber and 8 grams of protein too! It’s still rich in niacin, folate, and vitamin E just like original PB. Plus, in powdered form, it’s easier to clean dishes without any of the sticky mess of normal peanut butter.

    Drawbacks

On the setback side, powdered peanut butter isn’t going to give you the indulgent smooth and creamy factor of regular peanut butter. As such, you may not feel as satiated when consuming it, since it’s not exactly what you might have been craving. It’s also vital to check the ingredients when purchasing, and make sure to avoid any brands with too much added sugar (more than a gram or so). And, it’s not easy to substitute in baked goods since fat content is key for precise baking recipes. It’s also important to note that it does not taste the exact same as regular peanut butter, so though it’s a healthier substitute, you will notice a difference. One other drawback is that the powdered stuff is typically more expensive than normal peanut butter, usually $7 or $8 compared to about $4.

    The Deets

You can purchase powdered peanut butter at local health food stores and grocery stores. Online is another great option if you can’t source it locally. Amazon has numerous options for sizes and brands, including the PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter Bundle; this pack includes a classic powdered peanut butter, and a chocolate variety. We love that sweet cocoa powder twist! Another cool brand is Crazy Richard’s Pure PB Powdered Peanut Butter. The only ingredient is peanuts, which means no fillers or sweeteners, just that pure peanut goodness. It’s also super convenient, since it comes in packets already measured out for single usage, and there’s only 8, so it’s a good way to test if you like and will utilize this new health food.

    How To Use It

Powdered peanut butter can be rehydrated with water or milk and used as a spread on toast, and added to smoothies. It would also be good sprinkled on salad, in overnight oats, or in a healthier version of Peanut Butter Chicken. Powdered peanut butter would be useful when making a spicy peanut salad dressing too! The sky is the limit for this inventive ingredient.
