The Doctor Who Thinks Everyone Needs To Start The ‘Meat-Only’ Diet

I love steaks. Chances are, if you clicked on this article, you like steaks too. When you bite into a flavorful cut of meat, cooked to medium-rare perfection, you can’t help but think to yourself, “I wish I could live off only this forever.”

Well, one doctor thinks that you could — and that you should.

Meet Dr. Shawn Baker, a doctor and athlete who is one of the foremost advocates for the “carnivore diet”, a diet which focuses on the consumption of solely animal products — mainly meat. This excludes vegetables, fruit, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, or any starches.

But what really is the carnivore diet? Who is this Dr. Shawn Baker? We’ll answer these questions, and more, in the following article.

    The Carnivore Diet?

The carnivore diet is the lifestyle of consuming different kinds of meat to achieve all the health benefits and needs one requires, without consuming vegetables, fruits, or any other foods outside of animal products. The selling point (aside from only eating delicious meat) is that the diet yields zero carbs — a very appealing number for those who are trying to cut down.

Dr. Baker has been one of the biggest advocates for the benefits of the carnivore diet. But who exactly is Dr. Shawn Baker?

Dr. Baker has a small following as the foremost expert and advocate for the all-meat diet. His website addresses the common concerns one might have when undertaking the carnivore diet, and he has done several interviews and podcasts, including an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, detailing the diet and explaining the science behind it. With his social media pages show him excelling at his other passion, weightlifting, the image painted is quite clear — get on the carnivore diet, and you will be healthy while bench pressing massive weights, and essentially personifying what it means to “be a man”.

Of course, even though it’s the doctor’s orders, there’s naturally going to be some skeptical voices that question the carnivore diet’s credibility. So how do the diet, and more importantly, Dr. Baker hold up to scrutiny?

As with almost any diet, it can entirely depend on your own body and tastes. However, a recent video put up by Mic the Vegan analyzed Dr. Baker’s blood tests after pursuing the diet, showing the negative effects of the diet while also addressing Baker’s dismissals of the downsides.

If that wasn’t jarring enough, the New Mexico Medical Board officially revoked Dr. Baker’s medical license just last year, when he was beginning to peddle the carnivore diet to different audiences.

Whether the carnivore diet is right for you or not, it’s important to do thorough research before trying a new lifestyle change, as well consult doctors — preferably ones who haven’t had their licenses revoked.
