The Impossible Burger is here in ‘Whopper’ form to unite all food lovers with a no-meat alternative that will leave your mouth watering for more. I’m here to tell you all that you need to know about the infamous Impossible Whopper before it goes nationwide at Burger King after the incredible success it had testing in St. Louis, Missouri.
First off, what even is the Impossible Burger?
The Impossible Burger is rapidly increasing in popularity and demand as one of the many products at Impossible Foods. This company essentially uses plants to make meat so that we no longer have to use animals. If you eat meat like myself, you may find this concept hard to believe but that’s the point of it being ‘impossible’. Its an alternative plant-based meat that appeals to every diet. Vegans love it, vegetarians love it, and yes, even meat-lovers love the taste.
But what really drives the selling point is what products like the Impossible Burger are doing for our planet. The Impossible Foods mission is to essentially to “eat a burger, save the world” by cutting back on the land, water, and fuel usage it takes to make actual meat. Not only is the Impossible Burger paving the way for non-meat alternatives, it’s also making a difference on the planet we all come home. How cool is that?! But if you’re still not onboard with the hype, keep reading.
What does it REALLY taste like?
Alright fellow meat-lovers, here’s the tea. The plant-based meat was developed after its creators explored the plant world to recreate what we love most about meat – the savory taste and texture – and turn it into something better for everyone. But how can plants taste like meat? The secret is heme. It’s what makes meat taste like, well, meat. This little molecule is found in both plants and animals. A common denominator. Basically, when we crave meat, we’re really craving heme. This molecule is found in the roots of soy plants and is mixed with yeast, which is where the Impossible Burger comes from.
Despite all the plant and molecule talk, the Impossible Burger tastes just like a normal burger. Juicy, savory and delicious. Meat-lovers, vegans and vegetarians are raving about how this no-meat alternative tastes incredibly like meat. Which is why Burger King jumped on the opportunity to partner with Impossible Foods to create the Impossible Whopper.
Why Burger King?
It seems like a bit of a gamble for a fast food chain known for their burgers to launch beef-less patty. However, with the growing popularity and ultimate domination of the Impossible Burger brand, this risk seems to be much more favorable for Burger King’s franchise.
On April 1st of this year, Burger King rolled out its Impossible Whopper to stores in St. Louis, Missouri. As a St. Louis native, I can testify, I thought this was an April Fools prank about how we have peculiar, yet delicious, food trends (don’t knock them until you try them). No-meat products? At the place calling itself the King of Burgers? I mean, who wouldn’t think it’s an April Fools prank? Nevertheless, people braved the new alternative burger and loved it. Positive reviews poured in, especially on Twitter. Some tweeted they had to double check their whopper to make sure it really wasn’t meat.
In addition to jumping on an incredible partnership and marketing opportunity with the Impossible Whopper, Burger King is taking strides to help save the Earth. For just a dollar more than the original sandwich, the Impossible Whopper will be available nationwide by the end of the year. So, let’s all eat a burger and save the world.
