There’s nothing like a warm cup of coffee on a cold winter day. Now that Thanksgiving has passed, you can say goodbye to your pumpkin spice latte and say hello to this festive gingerbread drink. Starbucks’s version is delicious, but if you want a cup of joe without having to trudge through the snow, you can make this simple recipe from the warmth of your own kitchen.

    Gingerbread Latte

    Recipe

    Ingredients

    • 3 tablespoons strong coffee or espresso
    • 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
    • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
    • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 cup milk (those with more fat yield more froth)

    Supplies

    • coffee or espresso machine
    • small pot
    • electric mixer or whisk

    Directions

    1. Brew your coffee according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

    2. Pour the hot coffee into your mug.

    3. Stir in the syrup, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla.

    4. In a small pot, heat the milk until it begins to bubble.

    5. Using the electric mixer or whisk, stir until the milk becomes frothy.

    6. Pour the milk froth onto the coffee.

    Recipe Notes

If you are lactose intolerant, you can use almond, coconut, or soy milk instead of regular milk.

Decaffeinated coffee can be substituted for regular coffee.

    Toppings

Your latte is drinkable and delicious as is. However, since it is the holiday season, add a little festivity to your latte with one of these toppings:

    • chocolate shavings
    • gingersnap cookie crumbles
    • gingerbread cookies
    • nutmeg
    • cinnamon
    • sugar, to taste

Now that you know how to prepare the perfect gingerbread latte, you’ll never have to step outside of your house for a delicious winter drink.
