The croissant that was never just right.
The croissant that was never just right.

"I've dealt with my fair share of ridiculously crazy and stupid customers but there was one that was definitely the worst. We had a woman come in with her kids, she ordered a few orders of hash browns a bunch of random coolattas and some sandwiches which were just toasted croissants with butter and cheese, gross. We make everything for this order and hand it out and everything seemed fine, two minutes later she's back at the counter and starts screaming at my coworker how she ordered a croissant and that it has like NO butter on it at all. Whatever, we apologize and remake it. Next it has TOO much butter and wasn't warm enough. And then it was too warm, and then an issue with the cheese. She starts screaming at all of us that this is "our job and that this is the third time she's asked us to remake a simple sandwich" and that we're all incapable of following a simple "order." It got to the point of her screaming in my managers face that she should do her job right the first time. Other customers started sticking up for us though." Source

"Technically we're not supposed to eat on the floor while we're working... But working with donuts and munchkins all the time makes that a little impossible. We're allowed all the free coffee we want, along with any other beverage that we make ourselves like iced tea and coolattas. We have to pay for drinks from the cooler (Sodas and juices) and we're supposed to punch in the meals we eat during the day as employee meals... Which would mean a 50% off discount. None of us do that though, we're constantly just making sandwiches and stuff for ourselves and eating them in the back. It is very easy to get sick of the food. I no longer enjoy donuts. Munchkins are still cool though." Source

"The most aggravating and annoying customer was the first customer to make me cry. On my second day of working at Dunkin'. I'll never forget it. I had just learned how to make coffee coolattas so I was making one for an elderly woman. I did everything perfectly right... seeing as the person training me was walking me through every step. When the lady got her drink she took one sip of it, made a disgusted face and started going off on ME about how gross it was and how it's not right and how she orders one of these every single day from our Dunkin' and how I clearly don't know what I'm doing. She demanded it be remade (which we would of done anyway) by someone other than me and then stood watch over the counter as my coworker made her a new one. The same exact way. She drank it happily and all was well. My confidence on the other hand was shattered and it took a lot to not tear. I got over it though." Source

Munchkins for you, munchkins for everyone!
Munchkins for you, munchkins for everyone!

"To be honest, if the person on register is nice enough and you order just "one munchkin" they'll most likely give it to you for free since you can't just buy one. If they're in a good mood they may even just toss you 1-3 for free. You can only order them in multiples of 3 until 12 and then 25, 50 & 100. We're also allowed to offer 1-2 free munchkins to small kids (asking their parents first of course). Donuts, muffins, bagels & bread get trashed after closing. It's the saddest thing ever, I've shed a tear." Source

"The chances of you getting free donuts if you show up just before closing are highly likely. I start giving away munchkins around 9-9:30 since we close at 10 and they'll just be thrown out anyway! Also when we toss our donuts we do them in new garbage bags so if you see a dunkin dumpster after closing... usually huge bags of fine donuts, bagels, muffins & breads!" Source

What
What "health risks?!" They're free donuts!

"We used to bag up our leftovers and give them away, but after a complaint to corporate were no longer allowed to due to health risks...'Health risks.'" Source

"We have to follow standard build when it comes to making iced coffee and chai, and sometimes (more often than you think) a district manager will be there for a surprise visit (few times a week sometimes) and they'll actually stand behind the counter watching you do it. Standard build includes ice to the rim of the cup. If it bothers you just ask for less ice! There is a button on register for that. As for chai, I've actually only made it over ice one time. It was also an unusual request and not something we hear often. It's usually a hot drink too.. except a few weeks ago we started offering frozen chais but its more of a smoothie consistency and its made in the island oasis blender so we can't control the amount of ice." "I've only been here a few months now but in my time, just recently, we did get a pretty large order of donuts. We got two entire donut racks (a whole big metal rolling thing with a few shelves for 2/3 trays donuts each) plus enough donuts to fill the case. It was like 300+ donuts." Source

"I have not seen that many crazy things to be honest. I'd imagine our openers have seen the crazier things since they are usually there anywhere from 4am to 8am or later! I guess the craziest thing was walking in to clean the bathroom one morning only to discover someone had taken it upon themselves to rip a pipe out from the back of our toilet...and leave it draped across the toilet paper dispenser dripping sewagey water all over the floor and stuff. It was gross." Source

"Most stores bake their croissants! We start baking at 6-7pm every day. We prepare the bagels, muffins and croissants for the finishers who come in around 3-4am to frost and fill donuts, put the correct toppings on the bagels and stuff like that. We finish the croissants the night before though and set them out covered. (So they won't dry out overnight!) They come frozen, don't get me wrong... "Bakers" just put them out to thaw and then put them in the oven to bake." Source

"If you've never been to Dunkin Donuts, hmmmm....Well if you like caffeine, caramel and stuff I'd recommend a caramel macchiato. Which is just an upside down latte with a bit more espresso. My personal favorite is a medium iced coffee with 2 pumps of caramel swirl and 1 pump of the vanilla bean coolata syrup (a secret thing a lot of crew members do is use the vanilla bean syrup in the coffees for ourselves cause it's delicious. Since the cookie dough swirl was seasonal we discovered when you mix caramel syrup and the vanilla bean syrup it tastes nearly identical to the cookie dough flavor we used to have) with 3 cream. If you don't like the crunchy sugar in the bottom of your iced coffee ask the crew member to put the sugar in first, then pour a tad bit of hot coffee over it to dissolve it before adding ice and iced coffee! Prevents getting grainy crunchy sugar sucked through your straw!!" Source

"We don't have an official secret menu but there is a secret mixology button that most people don't know about. It's for coolata flavors so you can mix the flavors we have. A personal favorite of mine is the strawberry coolata with a bit of the lemonade concentrate so it makes a strawberry lemonade Slushie! Also if you mix all 3 of the new coolata flavors together (sour apple, blue raspberry and watermelon) you get something that tastes exactly like those crybaby Italian icees they used to make in stores and stuff. Also orange coolata with vanilla bean tastes like a cream-sicle. Small combos like that." Source

"My favorite donut is either the strawberry frosted (without sprinkles!) or a boston creme. My favorite coffee is a medium iced coffee, light & sweet with cream, with 2 pumps of caramel swirl and 2 pumps of vanilla bean coolatta syrup. I honestly don't mind people who give a lot of special requests because it's not that much extra work. Unless it's something annoying like "can you make this medium hot coffee in a medium latte cup but can you use two sleeves and also add three ice cubes before pouring the coffee, senior discount!" or "Half of one sugar" stuff that's just unusual.. but does happen more often than you'd think. If you mean hash browns, I know they're expensive...but like, then again...worth it." Source
