Hey there, fellow travelers! We’ve all had vacation experiences that started with excitement but ended in disaster. We’ll be diving into the cringe-worthy and entitled tales of friends who recount the vacation mishaps that pushed their friendships to the breaking point. From too-frugal friends to control-freak companions, these folks share why their relationships ended after vacation. Yikes! Maybe I’ll rethink my next trip! “A few years ago, I went on a trip with my friend, ‘Lisa.’ Little did I know, the journey would test our friendship to its very limits due to her entitled, selfish, and inconsiderate attitude.

On the first night, Lisa’s boyfriend decided it was the perfect time to ring her up at a delightful 3 a.m. She talked on the phone for three hours with him, leaving me tossing and turning all night long.

The next evening, my husband called at a respectable 7 p.m. As I answered and started walking towards the door, Lisa lost her mind.

She screamed, ‘What are you doing? I’m tired, and I don’t want to listen to you talk for hours!’

I was dumbfounded, but I couldn’t help but remind her about the late-night call from her boyfriend. But, of course, it was different—apparently, he had forgotten about time zones. Classic.

But the real saga began at another hotel during our travels. Picture this: only two precious electrical sockets in the room. Now, common decency would dictate we share, right? Not in Lisa’s world. She unashamedly claimed them both, declaring her phone and toothbrush needed their much-deserved recharge. Meanwhile, my poor phone longed for a power boost.

As if it wasn’t enough, the bathroom fiasco took the cake. I patiently waited for my turn to shower after Lisa announced her urgent need to use the bathroom. Naturally, I assumed she must be sick. But when I finally asked how she was feeling, she was as fit perfectly fine. She was just too impatient to wait for me to shower. Go figure!

But the climax of this friendship disaster came in Beijing. Lisa, in her infinite wisdom, decided the room was too hot and demanded the staff open the bedroom window. In Beijing! You can imagine my disbelief when the staff told me to shut up and sleep with my mask on. They even tried to reason with Lisa, but she insisted like only an entitled, spoiled brat can.

By midnight, I was a wheezing mess. I had to sleep in the hotel lobby while Lisa snoozed away in our room. The following day, the staff finally closed the window when they heard me hacking like a 90-year-old with a bad smoking habit.

After the trip, our friendship fractured under the weight of Lisa’s entitled antics and my growing frustration. Sometimes, it’s better to let go of toxic relationships and cherish the memories not overshadowed by entitled demands. As for Lisa, I figured she could find someone else to join her on her entitled escapades.”

    2. “I Never Spoke To Her Again”

“Ah, college days, where everything seemed possible, including the brilliant idea my parents had for a beach house getaway. They generously rented a spacious condo for a week and allowed me to invite a couple of friends. It sounded like the perfect plan—plenty of space for everyone to enjoy their own thing. Little did I know, this trip would be an eye-opening lesson in friendship.

The trouble began just three hours into the road trip when one of my friends, ‘Kayla,’ realized she couldn’t find her phone. Panic ensued, and we made a U-turn to retrace our steps. After a good 45 minutes of searching and calling, we discovered she had been sitting on her phone the entire time. We added an extra 90 minutes to our already long 15-hour journey. Strike one.

Then, we finally arrived at the beach house, ready to kickstart our much-anticipated vacation. My parents sat everyone down to discuss grocery plans for the week. Innocent enough, right? Well, not for Kayla. Suddenly, she had a plethora of mysterious ‘allergies,’ claiming she could only consume a specific brand of peanut butter, among other things. Let’s just say my mom, who was allergic to nuts, wasn’t buying it. Strike two for the allergy faker.

But the real kicker came the next day. As we eagerly hit the beach, guess who decided to put on a grand show of ‘enjoying’ the ocean? Yep, you guessed it—Miss Mopey. Kayla made a big spectacle of attempting to hang out by the water, only to get knocked down by a single wave. From then on, she retreated to the house, sulking and making passive-aggressive comments about how no one was giving her attention. Meanwhile, the rest of us were out there having a blast. Strike three!

Needless to say, the remainder of the trip was spent tiptoeing around the moody cloud looming over us. The final straw had been drawn. Our friendship was ruined by my friend’s poor attitude and stupid drama. After the trip, I never spoke to Kayla again. Hopefully, she’s out enjoying herself—somewhere far away from the sand and waves.”

“My friend and I thought we had our travel plans down to a science. We were organized, we planned together, and we genuinely enjoyed each other’s company. So, we thought adding a third friend to the mix would be a great idea. Little did we know what we were getting ourselves into.

We arrived in the Big Apple, ready to conquer the city. Our third friend, ‘Rachel,’ had been there before, while the rest of us were NYC newbies. We were all excited to explore, but Rachel had her own agenda. She would periodically hijack our plans with little warning and demand we drop everything to meet her.

On Wednesday, my travel buddy and I had planned an art-filled day at the Metropolitan Museum. We were thrilled to immerse ourselves in culture, doing guided tours and leisurely strolling through the exhibits. We were in art heaven. But guess what? Rachel, out of the blue, messaged us to say she had bought tickets for a show and we needed to meet her in an hour. Seriously? We were devastated.

We had to rush through the museum, cutting our trip short. Not to mention, I was starving. We had planned to grab lunch at the museum, but our dreams were shattered. I hadn’t eaten a single bite all day, and now I had to endure a three-hour show on an empty stomach. The hangry struggle was real.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, we stumbled out of the theater around 5 p.m. All I wanted was a decent meal and some relaxation, but Rachel had other ideas. She insisted on dragging us to a crowded bar for happy hour. I couldn’t believe it. I was tired, hungry, and just wanted to escape from her never-ending itinerary.

Then, revenge started brewing in my mind. The next day, while Rachel was sleeping off her bar-hopping extravaganza, my travel buddy and I created a plan. We decided we’d spend the entire day exploring NYC without Rachel. No compromises, no last-minute changes. Just pure freedom to enjoy the city at our own pace.

As we left the hotel in the morning, we didn’t bother leaving Rachel a note or a message. We simply went off on our grand adventure, reveling in the freedom we had missed. It was glorious. And you know what? We had the best time, free from Rachel’s demands and unexpected detours.

When Rachel finally woke up and realized we had left her behind, she was livid. But we were done. The breaking point had been reached. We couldn’t handle the chaos and constant disruptions anymore. Her negative attitude and constant demands ruined our trip. So, we bid farewell to Rachel and her impulsive ways, vowing to stick with our tried-and-true travel buddies from then on.

My friend and I learned our lesson: never invite a new travel buddy again!”

“Back in the 90s, I took a trip with my friend. We were friends for years and were practically inseparable. So when the opportunity arose to go on a two-week vacation together, I thought, ‘Why not? It’ll be a blast!’ I had dreams of a memorable road trip adventure, and Chris needed some time away from the city to reflect on his relationship.

In a generous gesture, I offered to take Chris along, only asking him to cover his own food expenses. Seemed fair, right? Well, halfway through the trip, disaster struck. Chris ran out of money. Now, we weren’t dining at fancy restaurants, just your average fast-food joints. In a moment of concern for my friend, I decided to save the day by borrowing money on my credit card—$400 to be precise—and lent it to him.

But when we returned home, things took an unexpected turn. Chris had the nerve to expect I wouldn’t ask for repayment. He thought I should just gift him the money because ‘he was a good friend.’ Mind you, I had already footed the bill for most of the trip, spending thousands out of my own pocket.

I took Chris to the bank to withdraw the money he owed me, and boy, was he fuming when he handed it over. It was as if I had committed an unforgivable offense. Little did I know, this would mark the end of our friendship.

A few weeks later, I received an email forwarded to me by a mutual friend. Curiosity piqued, I opened it, only to discover an hour-by-hour account of our entire trip from Chris’s perspective. Here I was, oblivious to his complaints and dissatisfaction throughout the journey. He never bothered to communicate any of it with me. Yet, in this email sent to all his friends, he not only criticized my actions but also embellished some claims that were far from the truth.

The email, a lengthy ten-page rant, was the turning point in our relationship. It was sent not only to our mutual friends but also to some of my own buddies, all behind my back. Soon after, our friendship dissolved into thin air.

It’s been over two decades now, and I’ve never heard from or laid eyes on Chris again. Good riddance.”
