Ooops! She did it again…
On Wednesday, September 27th, cops conducted a welfare check on Britney Spears after she posted disturbing videos of herself dancing with knives to her Instagram.
“Somebody close to Britney had seen the video posted on social media, where she’s dancing and twirling with knives in her hands, and they were really concerned for her mental well-being,” Captain Dean Worthy of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office shared.
Sources cannot confirm who exactly called in the welfare check, but Worthy confirmed that the anonymous person has a relationship with Spears that’s much stronger than ‘fan.’
“We would normally not respond to fans calling in about a celebrity unless we actually believed that there is a credible threat,” the officer says. “However, we vetted this individual through LAPD…and we determined this is someone who knows Britney on a personal basis.”
When police arrived at Spears’ residence in Thousand Oaks, California, they spoke to security through the home’s intercom system. Security let them know that the Pop Queen was just “fine” and “nothing was going on.”
“They didn’t want to let the officer in to see her physically,” Worthy added in her statement.
Still, the officers felt that the security team’s response was “sufficient,” so they left not too long after.
“There’s no criminal activity so we’re not going to force ourselves inside the home if there is no crime,” Worthy said. “Being a danger to oneself isn’t a crime. I think we did our due diligence by going and responding and speaking to two people who are close with her who satisfactorily told us she’s fine.”
When another video of Spears dancing with a bandage on her arm and blood marks on her body was also posted to the singer’s instagram, Worthy declined to confirm whether or not officers had seen it.
When all said and done, a difference source shared that Spears was simply “paying homage” to Shakira’s 2023 VMA performance.
“It was based on the Shakira performance,” the source claimed Their explanation aligns perfectly to the explanation Spears gave herself when people on social media started to panic seeing the pop star carrying a sharp knife while dancing wildly.
Spears has since expressed her annoyance with concerned fans who called the cops. As she wrote in an Instagram post, she feels like everyone “went a little too far and [her] privacy was invaded.”
While dancing with knives is certainly an odd thing to do, Spears does have the right to do as she pleases in the comfort of her own home. Maybe she’ll think twice before doing things to send her fans into a panic.
