When legendary actor James Gandolfini passed away in 2013, he was immortalized by his performance as Tony Soprano, the hard-boiled mobster from HBO’s The Sopranos. But did you know the guy had a soft spot for SpongeBob Squarepants? Like seriously, there are quite a few pics of the onscreen Mafia boss palling around with the Nickelodeon character.
The reason why is actually very wholesome. It turns out Gandolfini is pictured with SpongeBob so much is because he attended many Dream Halloween benefits, a fundraiser for families affected by HIV and AIDS. In a time where the dark pasts of so many celebs have been revealed, its a relief to discover that the guy from The Sopranos was not only a Nickelodeon fan but an overall great guy.
