Hotel employees are just simply trying to do their job like everyone else but unfortunately, hotels seem to be the standard rendevous spot for secret lovers. This often leads to hotel employees being in the middle of relationship drama that was not addressed during their on-the-job training.
Take a look at some of the craziest things hotel employees have witnessed when a guest has been caught cheating.

“Now, You’re Going To Tell Me What Room She Is In.”
“I was working the second shift of the day from three pm to eleven pm when a guy walked in. I started to ask him if he was checking in when he cut me off and said this
‘Look, we can do this easy way or the hard way. My wife is here with another man.’ I was frozen and raised my eyebrows like I was shocked. He said ‘Yep. Now, you’re going to tell me what room she is in.’
Mind you, it’s barely six pm. Plenty of light out and a group of men were in the breakfast area talking.
When I say my fight or flight enacted, it really did. I didn’t know if he had a weapon or anything, so part of me wanted to sprint behind the wall right behind the desk. I couldn’t move and just told him that I can’t tell him what room his wife is in.
He said, ‘You can’t?’ And I told him that I’m not allowed to and he needs to leave. I fully expected him to get more aggressive but he just said ‘Okay,’ very calmly and walked outside. I think if we had been there alone at night it might have been different.
I was still scared so I ducked into the office and locked the door to call the police. At this point, the cameras showed him walking in circles around the building. I called the police, and you won’t believe what they told me
They asked if he had a weapon and I said not that I know of but he is wearing jeans and a jacket. I told them he wouldn’t leave the property. They said ‘Sorry, we aren’t responding to non-emergencies. But let us know if it gets worse.’
I was LIVID. I’m the only employee in the whole building and I’m an eighteen-year-old girl. He ended up coming back inside with someone else. I gave him the same response that I was not allowed to tell him what room his wife was in and that he needed to leave immediately. The men in the lobby had noticed me and him acting strange so they asked me about it. After telling them, they said they’d have my back just in case and even asked if I wanted them to make him leave.
After I asked him and the other person the leave, they ignored me and proceeded to the stairwell to check all of the floors of the building. I called the police again and they said ‘Okay, I’ll let someone know you called again.’
Well, the man that came to the desk ended up hiding in a corner by a door near the lobby. He jumped out from the corner when his wife walked by and scared her. She speed-walked to her car with him trailing her and screaming in her face while she tried getting away.
I ended up calling my grandpa to make the police do something because I was that scared. After his wife left, the man sat in the car for another half hour before cops finally showed up. The guy ended up leaving literally minutes before the cops showed up. He had been at the hotel for almost two hours and the cops wouldn’t respond.
I carry pepper spray now.”
“Angry Mistress?”
“So it was my third day on the job and while I don’t remember the rest of that shift, I do remember the last ten minutes quite vividly. We were incredibly slow and everyone was standing around bored. We’d already finished everything and were just waiting out the clock. Our trainer looked at me and the other new trainee and said we can go home then if we wanted, she would wait for the night auditor to come in by herself since we had no check-ins left. The other trainee didn’t argue with this. She just snatched her purse and practically ran for the time clock, punched out, and ran out the closest door while shouting across the lobby ‘Have a good night!’
I double-checked with my trainer to see if she needed anything else, she said she was fine and I grabbed my backpack and headed for the time clock as well. As I walked across the dining area to the time clock, I heard the elevators open and chime ‘Going Up.’ Out walked a man, no older than sixty, in his birthday suit who was censoring himself with one hand and walking down the hall towards me.
I know most people would’ve frozen by this point and probably panicked or screamed but I just looked at him with wide-eyed confusion and thought ‘What on Earth did your doctor give you?’ I guess he saw my look and became embarrassed because after we made eye contact he quickly turned the corner into the public restrooms and hid there. When I saw he went into the restrooms I became suspicious and thought that maybe he wasn’t all there mentally and was looking to scare women in the ladies’ room. So I rushed up and peeked around the corner fast enough to see that he instead went into the men’s room.
My immediate thought was, Not my problem. I’m too new for this. I walked to the laundry room, clocked out, and went to the desk and told my trainer what I witnessed thinking that she would know what to do and how to handle it. She didn’t.
She immediately started panicking and thought that he was a pervert looking to hurt or scare women. I told her he was in the men’s room and he made eye contact with me but ignored me. So my best guess was that he was either not all there mentally or on something. She started asking me what she should do and if she should call our general manager. I told her that she should start by getting the man a blanket to cover up with and ask him if he’s alright. She agreed and ran to do just that while panicking the whole time.
I chose to stick around and see what happened.
My trainer went to get him a blanket and I took a seat in the dining area which was closed at that hour. I started pretending to play on my phone while I eavesdropped to make sure she was handling this alright. She came to me later and said ‘I’m going to get him a key to his room. He said he got locked out. How do you get locked out completely in your birthday suit?’
I jokingly responded ‘Angry mistress?’
We both had a chuckle, she made him a key, and confirmed details with him before handing it over. He went to his room and that’s when our night auditor arrived. I left at that point and went on home.”
“Angry Mistress?” Part II
“The next day, I found out my joke was very accurate. I was told that shortly after he went up, she came down. The woman had her bags packed and was in baggy clothes. Her hair was a mess and her makeup was ruined by tears. She asked the night auditor to say that they didn’t see her if the man that was staying in her room asked. The night auditor, who had not yet been informed of the previous situation, asked if she was alright and if she was in danger. She then told our night auditor that the man in her room was her boss and she was his secretary. They had been shacking up on business trips, he bought her everything she ever wanted, and he told her that he would leave his wife for her because she makes him happy. However, when she found out she was pregnant and told him the joyous news, he wasn’t happy. He told her that he can’t leave his wife right away because it will cause a huge scandal in the office and make him look bad. Then he told her she should just abort the baby and they can try again when they’re together out in the open.
She got upset and started crying then accused him of never loving her or truly wanting to be with her. He just used her. He tried to calm her down, still pushing for the abortion and to keep it a secret. So she told him she would and actually did calm down. That made him think that she was happy with him and will do anything for him. They started to get passionate and as she stripped him she walked him to the front door. He didn’t notice until she pushed him out the door completely undressed. He stood there covering himself and beating on the door begging her to let him back in. She ignored him and packed her things. She then heard him take the elevator so she took the stairs. She heard my trainer talking with him at the elevator so she waited until he was gone to come out and go to the desk.
She then told the night auditor that she was on her way to the airport to book the fastest flight home, on his dime, and plans to tell his wife everything. She even said she plans to get a lawyer and sue him for child support and bleed him dry. The night auditor then gave her some good advice. They advised her to look into the secretaries that came before her because she may not be the only one. This means his company may know and that she could get something out of them by threatening to expose him. Either that or he’d lose his job.
She was a happy guest and left the hotel in her Uber right as the man came off the elevator and charged to the front desk. He asked the night auditor if they had seen a woman fitting her description and they said no. He hadn’t seen anyone. The man asked about the Uber that just left and the night auditor said it was an associate going home for the night. The man panicked and said that the woman had his phone and wallet.
The night auditor, concerned that the woman was a con-artist and had lied, started asking the man for more detail. The man admitted that she wasn’t his wife but was in his room. He then couldn’t keep his story straight and started changing details. The night auditor just played along and promised to keep an eye out. The next morning, the man checked out furiously. Screaming in the general manager’s face about how the associates let a thief leave the property with his items and travel across the country on his dime. The general manager, knowing the full story, apologized for the situation and offered to call the police. Mentioning that they should have been called from the start because there was a man in his birthday suit running loose on the property. The man stormed off red-faced after that and everyone got a laugh. We never heard from him again. I hope the secretary got a nice fat settlement to raise that baby on.”
“Yeah Uhh, Could You Not Tell My Wife?”
“Where I work, you have twenty minutes to register your car or you get a one hundred dollar fine sent to your home address. It’s a third-party service that we have no control over outside of two very tall signs that are the first thing you see when you walk in. All receptionists tell any guest that is checking in to register their car. If someone accidentally gets a fine, the general manager can just cancel it. In this particular incident, I was working the night shift and a call came through to the desk.
I said, ‘Hello, hotel, how can I help?’
The customer sheepishly responded, ‘Uhh hi I’ve got a booking tomorrow, I just wanted to confirm it.’ Then he stated his name.
‘Yeah, I have your reservation here. It’s all come through. Is there anything else you need?’ I asked.
He answered, ‘Yeah uhh, could you not tell my wife?’
Excuse me? ‘What? Sir, legally I can’t divulge the location of customers, activities, or personal details.’
The customer who was obviously planning something he didn’t want his wife to find out about responded, ‘Ohhh, great thanks.’ then hung up the phone.
I had four days off after this shift and didn’t check any emails until I came in for work the next week. When I arrived at work, one of my co-workers had printed out a chain of emails to show me. Of course, it was from the sketchy guy that I had spoken to over the phone the previous week.
It read: ‘Hi, I got a letter about a car parking fine. Can I get it canceled? I stayed with insert mistress name on date he cheated on his wife on. Here’s a copy of the fine.’
The staff member responded, ‘Sure, we can cancel that for you seeing as you stayed with insert mistress name on that date. In the future, please register your vehicle.’
Then the customer asked, ‘Can you email me saying it was an error?’
‘I replied previously saying it was an error.’ It was clear that the staff member had become frustrated at this point.
‘No, I need an email saying it was an error on your system. The fine is causing problems at home.’
After reading this, gears turned in my head, and then it clicked who it was. I hadn’t bothered to tell anyone except the other night auditor, so my co-worker was shocked when I told them the backstory. The next section appeared a day later as a printout in the tray in my office.
‘I don’t think we can do that?’, responded the very confused staff member.
‘I want to speak to a manager.’
The email chain was forwarded to the general manager and he took over the bizarre customer service issue.
The general manager started, ‘We have records of your stay so I have canceled the fine.’
The customer demanded, ‘I need a separate email saying how it was a computer error and your fault.’
‘We’re not doing that. We have canceled the fine. Have a good day.’
‘That’s fine have a good day.’
Here comes the best part. The guy had deleted all of the replies in the email and wrote a fake apology from the general manager saying how it’s our fault and he didn’t stay at the hotel. I assume he replied to the original thread so he could just scroll down to show his partner and have it look legitimate.
Our general manager had grown very frustrated with this customer and responded to the thread, ‘I see that you have edited my reply to serve your needs. I will not stand for this and I am now discussing with a legal team to deal with this forgery.’
To this, the customer responded, ‘Please don’t I don’t have any money and four kids to feed.’
That was the last I heard. I don’t think any legal stuff happened but that guy got caught twice being an idiot. Judging by how persistent this guy was I think he was sleeping on someone else’s sofa and on the fast track to divorce territory.”
“Surprise”
“It’s about seven pm when this lady comes in and after talking things out at the valet, makes her way over to me. We exchange greetings, and she tells me she would like to reserve a room but ‘only for a couple of hours.’ Obviously, we’re not a motel, so I let her know the minimum amount of time she could reserve a room for would be a full night. After asking what the price would be, she agrees and hands me her credit card.
This is where things get weird. As soon as I ask her for an I.D. to make the reservation, ‘Libbie’ backtracks and says that she doesn’t want her name anywhere on the reservation and would like to make it under the name of the guy who would be joining her later instead. I pause for a moment, and after asking her again if she was planning on using the room as well, I tell her that I at least need to put her name into the accompanying list for the room. I reassure her that only the employees would be able to see said list and that no, the guy she was planning to meet wouldn’t see it.
I would like to make it very clear that throughout this whole interaction Libbie has been super composed, kind, and understanding. At this point, however, I’m just thinking she’s here for a one-night meet-up and doesn’t want the dude to know anything about her because she’s probably married or something.
This theory of mine is further solidified when Libbie asks me to make a note in the reservation so that, if any point we need to address her by name around the dude, we wouldn’t call her by her real name, and instead, she gives me a fake name to address her by. At this point, I’m obviously bewildered but still trying to be accomodating and trying really hard not to let it show how much I’m trying to figure out what the heck is going on. We go through the rest of the check-in process and she even goes as far as showing me a picture of the dude so I’ll know who he is when he comes in. I hand her the key and she heads to her room.
About an hour later, the mystery dude walks in. My co-worker ends up checking him in, so I don’t really get to see much of ‘Jake.’ To be honest, at this point I still wasn’t giving the whole thing much thought other than that’s weird.
Not even thirty minutes have passed since Jake went up when Libbie comes back down and hands me both keys. They’d both received one key each. She then says ‘Thank you.’ in the most serious yet cordial way and then walks off.
Multiple thoughts went through my mind as this lady was making her way to the valet: That was way too fast even for a quickie. Libbie, please tell me you didn’t murder Jake. Why the heck did she give me two keys? Where’s Jake?
Security is standing behind me staring Libbie down probably having the same thought process as I am. My co-worker and I are whispering with each other still trying to figure out what the heck happened because that did not look like a lady who had just had a pleasant romp in the sheets.
Cue Jake coming down the stairs. Okay, we can breathe, he’s not dead. Now what happened next we couldn’t see because we suddenly had an onslaught of distressed passengers so I thought I wouldn’t find out what the heck had actually happened between Libbie and Jake. But the worker from the valet came over and boy did he have some tea to spill.
It turns out that Libbie had gone as far as asking the valet guy to park her car in a way that the license plate wouldn’t be visible. Why? Because it turns out that Jake is Libbie’s husband. This is because the alias that Libbie gave me just so happened to be the name of the girl Jake was cheating on her with. This woman somehow got her cheating husband to believe that his ‘girlfriend’ had booked them a sweet night at the hotel only for him to show up and find his wife sitting on the bed instead.
This amazing woman came back downstairs after probably massacring the heck out of this idiotic boy with not a hair out of place and calmly had the valet bring both of their cars back and then patiently waited for Jake to get his sorry butt back to the lobby so that she could extend her hand and demand their house keys from him. She then got into her car and just drove away. The only thing that would’ve made this even better was if Jake’s ‘girlfriend’ had also been there to tear into him as well. I like to think she had a part to play in this whole thing, since how else would Libbie have managed to trick him into getting to the hotel. Point is, this woman is all I aspire to be.”
“Get Back At Him”
“One day, after starting my shift as a valet as usual, I was outside at my post. We usually get a patrol car to do a drive-through every once in a while, so it was normal when I saw one. But then came another, and another, and another, until there were like six patrol cars outside, then an ambulance and a fire truck came. The whole parking lot was full as well as the check-in parking. We then were informed via our walkie-talkie that no one can go in or out of the hotel. The hotel went to total lockdown.
It was a good thing this day was a slow one because almost no additional people were waiting outside to check-in or showed up to check-in. Almost an hour later, we see a woman screaming like a banshee getting dragged out by multiple policemen, and then shoved inside a patrol car. Later after all of the calamity went down rumors started floating around on what happened.
It finally came out that the woman was someone’s wife. they both came inside the hotel to check-in. Sometime during their stay, the husband either cheated on her or confessed to cheating on her. Like any other person, she was distraught. She left her room, and as anyone would, started crying.
When a hotel staff member was comforting her, the wife asked what she should do now. From what I heard the hotel staff member advised the wife to ‘get back at him.’ The wife took this as stab the cheating husband. The guy somehow survived by either pure luck, running out of the room, or someone heard the commotion and called 911.
We never got news or info on how the story ended after they took her and her now-ex-husband away.”
Wrong Phone Number
“Some background first, I work in a call center for a small hotel chain and we take all calls incoming for any of the properties. We are responsible for dispatching them if needed, and to make phone reservations for any of our properties. Well, when the hotel tries to make a pre-authorization on a credit card and it doesn’t work, they call the client on the phone number registered on the reservation. If they can’t reach the client, they will leave a message asking them to call us back.
We are the ones to answer the phone, not the hotel. One day I receive a phone call and it goes like this:
‘Hi, how may I help you today,’ I asked.
‘YOU GUYS RUINED MY MARRIAGE, I’M GONNA SUE YOU! WHY WOULD YOU CALL MY WIFE AND ASK HER FOR HER CREDIT CARD NUMBER? ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS? I WANT TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER RIGHT NOW,’ said the angry man on the other end.
So anyway, I forward the call to the supervisor at the call center. She apologizes and explains that it was the hotel that called his wife because the pre-authorization didn’t work. She then explains that the name on the reservation and the phone number provided to ensure that it was correctly provided. When the supervisor recites the phone number, the guy exclaims:
‘THAT DUMB IDIOT! NO, SHE DIDN’T!!! NO WAY!!! SHE GAVE MY HOME PHONE NUMBER!!!!’
It turns out his mistress booked a hotel room for him and her, under her name, with her unsolvable credit card and gave his home phone number. Man, it doesn’t get any better than that. I know it’s not right to laugh about a broken home, and I don’t think anyone deserves it when bad stuff happens, but I’m having trouble not thinking that those two clowns didn’t deserve it.”
Barbie vs Madea
“Late at night a girl, ‘Barbie’ came down to call a ride. She sounded a bit frantic with whoever she was speaking with. While she was on the phone, another girl ‘Madea’ stormed into the lobby.
Barbie darted behind the desk. Of course, a desk isn’t going to hinder Madea’s wrath, as she simply walked around the other side of it. Apparently, Madea booked a room for her boyfriend under the guise that it would be for him alone, but in actuality, she was conducting her own little ‘sting operation’ to see if he’d actually be alone after she left. Barbie is the side chick.
After some yelling and gradual escalation, Madea suddenly starts throwing hands, at which point I tried to get in between them to no avail. Madea had grabbed Barbie’s hair and had an iron grip on it. I also didn’t want to grab them because I’m a guy, and I have no idea if I’d be liable for anything that occurred on hotel property. So Madea’s beating this girl’s rear and dragging her around by the hair while I call 911.
They end up on the floor in the middle of the lobby. Madea finally lets go of Barbie’s hair, possibly because her hair is now no longer attached to her head and is scattered throughout the lobby. I don’t know if other hotels have the same lobby decorations but in ours, we have these big stainless steel candle holder things around the pillars. They have handles, and the things have some weight on them. Madea picked one up and smashed it over Barbie’s head.
Barbie is still conscious and I managed to get Madea away from her so she could escape into the back office and lock the door. Madea ran outside, hopped in her car, and took off. I let Barbie stay in the back office until the police arrived, as she’s obviously very shaken up and crying. She said she didn’t want to deal with the police and thus she elected not to press charges. I took a few elbows to the chest and arms but I also did not press charges. I also had no idea who Madea was at the time.
Here’s the kicker. We found out who Madea was because the guy they were fighting over is one of my co-worker’s cousins. Madea is a medical worker and she booked that room using our hotel’s current free rooms program for them. And to top it all off, Madea was cheating on her wife with this guy.
The whole situation is an absolute mess. Management is also not pressing charges, despite the property damage and risk to an employee. I will say though that it sure made my night interesting.”
Instant Revenge
“It was my first shift alone at a newly opened hotel location. It was Valentine’s night and we were not surprisingly empty, maybe at thirty-five percent occupancy max. There were a ton of Couples Night things going on around town and my shift quite literally was about to end. In walked a woman.
‘Hi Ma’am, I need the key to my room,’ said the wife.
To this, I responded, ‘Okay, that shouldn’t be a problem ma’am, may I see your ID Card?’
She eagerly handed me an ID, and I quickly searched it in the system, there was no reservation under her name for this location. I figured if I search by property, we could find her easier since we recently switched to a system that allows us to search by property now, no luck.
‘Ma’am?’ I asked, ‘I can’t seem to find your reservation, is there a chance you made it for the wrong day?’
The wife responded, ‘No way, my husband made the reservation and he checked in four hours ago because I was still at work.’
I looked down at my screen and see a man’s name in the system for our location, the first and last names checkout, however, the female name attached as an authorized guest wasn’t the woman standing before me.
She asked, ‘It’s Brittney isn’t it?’
My eyes make contact with her’s and I can feel my heart sink as her eyes filled with tears. She immediately fell to the floor sobbing intensely, and I’m unsure as to what to do. Though I had more than ten years of customer service experience, it had not prepared me for this, never had I been exposed to this kind of situation.
‘We’ve been together for more than thirteen years and we have five kids together, what do I tell them,’ she flatly asked.
My heart broke as the professional in me wanted to tell her to leave, but the human in me just wanted to console her. I came out from behind the desk and met her on the floor, she was so broken and gasping for air that I started to get emotional myself.
She calmed down after about five minutes and proceeded to tell me that she and her husband shared bank accounts and that she flew to Texas all the way from Florida to follow him because he said he was meeting someone to find a breathing apparatus for one of their sick kids at home. She then asked if I could call the room her husband was in because it’s an emergency. I told her I would only call the room if she promised to stay seated in front of me at the desk. She followed directions and I made the call. I called seven times before she asked me if I could knock on the door. I was the only person on the property until Night Audit arrived, and we were pretty slow, so I obliged. As promised, She stayed seated the entire time, I even checked the cameras when I came back down. Sure enough, she hadn’t moved from the chair she was seated in.
‘Ma’am, your husband has a Do Not Disturb placard placed, so legally I cannot enter the room,’ I told her disappointed that I could not help.
The look on her face was less distressed and more like a woman whose soul had finally had enough. ‘Fine then.’ The force behind those two words sent an unimaginable shiver up my spine. She walked out the front door and into the parking lot.
About forty-five minutes passed and all was quiet, I’m due to clock out in about ten minutes when the wife comes storming back into the lobby
With a surprising spark of energy, she asked ‘Miss, I have the master key to MY car. Here’s my VIN Number, proof of insurance, and title. Can I take my car with me?’
She was showing me documents that proved that the sparkling white BMW with electric green rims out front belonged to her. I told her that if she’s got the master key and proof that the vehicle is hers, I can’t tell her ‘No.’ She happily took her things and hopped into her car, and drove away. She even honked her horn waving excitedly out the window as she passed by the desk area to grab my attention. I waved back and gave a smile too. As I was counting the drawer to end my shift, we get a phone call, from the wife. I really didn’t want to take the call because I was already thirty minutes late clocking off because of the written statement I had to leave behind for the manager for the following day, and I had to be back early the next morning. Turnaround shifts were pretty frequent.
‘I know my husband won’t answer the phone, so just leave him a message letting him know that his bank card has been reported as stolen, that I’m leaving him, and that if he would like to come home he can walk there because this vehicle belongs to me.’
She seemed to be in a much happier place, I told her I would let him know, and I wished her all the best.
I ended up being sick the following day, so my manager messaged me the details that followed. Apparently, the husband and other woman had to not only get Ubers, but they had to use the other woman’s cash to get bus tickets back to Florida because the wife froze all the credit and debit cards. He drove all the way to Texas in her car and I did the right thing by letting her take it. Even local police told him that his name wasn’t on the vehicle and since it was in her name, she had every right to repossess it from him.
The wife actually frequents the hotel. She is happily remarried, and her kids are all well and healthy. “
Hot Tub
“I had just arrived and clocked in when the phone rang. When I picked up, I wasn’t sure what I was hearing, as there was a lot of conflicting background noise, the loudest was some man yelling.
I started, ‘Thank you for calling Venture Hills, this is-‘
‘I want to talk to your manager!’ exclaimed the handed voice on the other end of the line.
It never ceases to amaze me how often I get this. I am the night auditor. It is at least ten pm, and even with varying American time zones, it’s only a couple of hours earlier or later. Why would a manager be there?
‘I’m sorry, there isn’t a manager available, but I’m the night auditor, is there something I can help you with,’ I politely asked.
Equally odd is how often people simply assume that title also means manager. The man’s yelling was fading in and out, but I began to pick up bits of it, most notably him demanding to know ‘Who it is?’ and ‘Is that him on the phone?’ I began to realize this call wasn’t going to go well.
I heard a female voice on the other end say, ‘Maybe. I stayed there last weekend with some of my friends for a birthday party, and we all got into the hot tub, okay?’
‘Um, ok.’ I heard a now reluctant male voice respond.
The female voice then said to me, ‘And a few days later I wasn’t feeling well, so I went to the doctor. He did some blood work and stuff, and told me I have herpes.’
Then I heard the man in the background yelling, ‘But it ain’t just you now, is it? Now it’s us that has it. WHAT WAS HIS NAME?’
At that moment, I was pretty sure I knew what had happened. It was a girl’s night out, and they partied hard. This lady had lost control and managed to sleep with some random guy then quite unknowingly made a gift of it to her significant other. At that moment, her significant other was explaining at maximum volume exactly what he intended to do to that random guy’s junk when he found him. Or maybe one of her friends was having a breakout and gave all her other friends the gift that keeps on giving.
‘So, ma’am. Am I to understand that you believe that you contracted herpes from our hot tub?’ I politely asked.
The man’s voice faded somewhat, and the woman whispered, ‘I don’t know, okay? But my boyfriend’s freaking out. Will you just tell him that it’s possible, but you can’t be sued or whatever? Please? I don’t know what he might do.’
Internal sigh. ‘Hand him the phone,’ I said.
The boyfriend takes the phone and angrily demands to know my name.
Using my best customer service voice, I said, ‘Sir, I’m the night auditor here at Venture Hills Hotel. I’m very sorry to hear that you and your girlfriend aren’t feeling well. However, while it is possible to contract certain illnesses in a hot tub, all hot tub usage is undertaken at the guest’s own risk. While we here at VH pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our facilities, we cannot guarantee that our guests are equally clean.’
‘So hold up, you’re saying she really got this from your hot tub,’ the man asked now puzzled.
Clenching my jaw, I respond, ‘It is a possibility, sir, especially if one of her friends was having an outbreak at the time.’
He is muttering incoherently, then- ‘Oh, I bet it was Melissa, everybody knows she gets around.’ Click.
At that point, I decided to Google just how badly I had lied for that woman’s well-being and learned that while it is generally agreed that STD’s cannot be transmitted via hot tub, Legionnaires Disease was a very real threat. See, I knew those hot tubs were no good.”
