Why on Earth would a studio re-release a box office flop with a 17% Rotten Tomatoes score? Memes.
Upon its release, Morbius took off for all the wrong reasons. By all accounts, the movie is awful. So awful in fact, that it has been memed into oblivion. While most people saw the irony in these memes, Sony did not.
They thought, “Hey, why not capitalize on all of the kids talking about our movie and do a re-release?”
For obvious reasons, mainly the movie being horrible, it flopped again.
