Spine-Chilling Text Message
“I met a girl online. She seemed normal enough, so we ended up going out for a drink. I found out that night that she actually lived an hour away in a rural town, but whatever. Well, we went out, had a drink, then went to go play pool. We drove over in my vehicle and when we got to the pool hall, she checked her phone and saw she had a text from her ex-boyfriend. She proceeded to cry incessantly. I was trapped. I didn’t know what to do, so I offered to take her back to her car. She said she wasn’t sure if she could drive, and she asked if I would take her home. I declined, saying it wouldn’t be a good idea because she lived an hour away, so how did she plan on getting her car back from here the next day?
So she agrees for the night to end, all the while apologizing vigorously. The next day she texts me, apologizes, and offers to buy me lunch. She seemed alright when we were getting to know each other and I was bored, so I gave her another shot. She brought her kids to the lunch. When I saw them get out of the car, I texted her and said that it wasn’t okay for me to meet them. She became irate and said her babysitter cancelled at the last minute. Even though the drive was an hour long from her house, she didn’t find it important to ask if it would be weird for her kids to come. It was at that point that I stated I was no longer interested. Now for the creepy part.
Two days later, she texted me but I didn’t respond. She kept at it and kept asking if I wanted to go out the next weekend. After multiple texts, I messaged her and said I wasn’t interested and I had plans to take my friend out for her birthday. This resulted in even more irate messaging about how she ‘wasn’t comfortable with me going out with other girls’ and so forth. This resulted in her getting blocked. Turns out she took a ‘guess’ on where we would go (since there was only one nightclub in the town), and she showed up. I had to tell the birthday girl that I was leaving and to call me when she was ready to go. My night was ruined. But wait, there’s more.
A couple of weeks after that, there was an ice storm and the power had gone out in the area. I ended up going over to a friend’s house to hang out since they had a generator. We were playing cards and enjoying ourselves. Suddenly I get a text from a number I didn’t recognize.
‘Are you alright? I’m really worried,’ the message read.
‘I’m fine, who is this?’ I replied.
It was the Creepy Girl. I ignored it and put my phone down. The next message sent chills down my spine.
‘I’m really worried! I’m standing outside your house and all the lights are off! Are you sure you’re okay?!’
She had never been to my house and I had never given her my last name. My final message before blocking her involved not contacting me or I’d call the police.
It turns out she was a secretary for a police department and she ran my tag to found out where I lived, drove over an hour to my house in the midst of an ice storm, then got a new number, all so she could ‘check up on me’. I didn’t turn her in and I won’t. She was a single mother, and the father of the kids was in another state. She had supposedly been abused and turning her in would have gotten her fired and/or arrested. While I realize what she did was illegal, I didn’t feel it would be right to put those little kids through that. I have no idea what she did with the kids during the ice storm. Her parents lived in the area, so I assume they went there. I have no idea where she is, but I’m pretty sure she’s no longer at the police department. I’m fine and haven’t heard from her since.”

“This was about 25 years ago now. I met this girl online who was seriously attractive. Like, super attractive. If someone like that would message me today, I would assume it was spam. But she was legit. We talked for a while, and I didn’t ever really see her creepy side on the phone or via chatroom. Once we transitioned to meeting in public, that was when things started to seem off. No matter the room we were in, there was always someone who she knew and who treated her poorly. There was always an evil guy who tried to be her boyfriend but treated her badly. I even broke down and asked a few folks she pointed at, and of course they were like, ‘She said that about me?! I don’t even know her.’
The final straw for me was when I was invited to a friend’s party and I invited her. After picking her up, she begged me to let her friend come. I knew my friend was going to be a bit ticked that I am inviting this girl already, and if she brings a friend, it’s not going to go over well. Mostly because it was not meant to be a 50-person party, just a couple friends. So, I told her, ‘Sorry, it isn’t my party, and I am already reaching pretty far inviting you.’
Almost instantly she burst into the biggest, loudest, belly-crying fit I have ever witnessed. She was 18 years old, screaming and crying at the top of her lungs in the passenger seat of my car. It was so loud, I wanted to roll the windows down to protect my ears, but I was too embarrassed that others may hear her. She kept screaming how unfair it is and asking me why I hate her and hate her friend. I couldn’t even think of anything to say. It caught me so off guard and made no sense, I didn’t have any words.
I was only 20 at the time, so I didn’t make the best choice, but it did work out. I decided I would tell her I changed my mind, and we could bring her friend. But when she got out to go knock on her door, I would drive off. And I did. I got a few nasty online messages from her afterwards, but that was it. Thankfully she didn’t know where I lived or anything like that, and she seemed to drop it quickly.”
Real-Life Vampire
“I’ve had a couple semi-stalkerish women who creeped on me (which is weird, because I’m not even good-looking), but my favorite ‘creepy girl’ story was just a one-off funny moment. When I was 22, I was hanging out with a couple friends just grilling and drinking, when one of them was suddenly like, ‘Do you guys wanna go to a costume party?’
Naturally, we all agreed. So we slapped together some quick costumes and hopped in an Uber. We showed up to this place and it was less a ‘costume party’ and more ‘6 people in an apartment wearing costumes’, but there were drinks and hot dogs so I was happy. Anyway, we spend the evening playing board games with this group of people who seem just as confused as we are. The entire night, there’s this one girl who’s sitting next to me on the couch, but she hasn’t said a single word. Not one. I don’t think much of it, some people are shy, it’s whatever.
But then, during a lull in the party, out of nowhere, she gets closer to me, looks me dead in the eye, and whispers, ‘I like blood.’
Then she shifts back to her spot like nothing happened. I turned to my friend and told them that we had to leave immediately. I still think about that night sometimes.”
Agent of God Or Just Insane?
“This was, thankfully, an online only interaction. It started innocently enough, with this random person asking me questions about my religious beliefs on social media. I was more than happy to discuss my religious beliefs, strictly in an informative way, never in a ‘this is the only right way to live’ sort of way. The conversation quickly turned weird though, as she began asking if I thought that people who were lying about who they were should admit to their sins. I stopped replying. That’s when things really went south.
She began harassing me at all hours of the day online. This spread to comments on my blog and emails (sent via a comment form on my blog). They were erratic and hard to make out, but I found other people she had stalked/harassed and pieced together what this was all about. A few years prior, she had a beef with a guy who lives in New Zealand. He cut off contact, but she began contacting his family, friends, and boss to tell them that he did ‘bad things’ to children. Now, he works in a school so this charge could end his career. Luckily, he warned his boss about her and they ignored the charges. Of course, it helped that her only proof was that God told her. Did I forget to mention that she claims she’s a prophet of God and that he literally talks to her to tell her bad things people do? Because that’s exactly what she claims. And good luck arguing with ‘God told me you’re guilty.’ Who is she going to believe? Your mountain of evidence or the voice of ‘God’ in her head? Anyway, she found me online and came to the conclusion that I was really a faked identity for New Zealand Guy. Her evidence? We both enjoyed photography. I guess all photos posted online are really only done by me. No wonder I never have free time! As I said before, arguing with her was useless. God told her that I stole the photos of my family from someone else and was pretending to be a married man in New York when I was really New Zealand Guy. Can’t argue with God.
I tried to contact the police, but she lived in Canada and there wasn’t anything they could do. I, and others, reported her account, but she always had a few spares ready to hop to. The harassment intensified as she told me that she was going to contact all the companies I did business with under my blog and tell them of my ‘crimes’. I had to warn a few people preemptively just in case. She also threatened to contact the local police on me, but luckily she didn’t know where I lived exactly. (One reason why I don’t post my exact location online.) She also posted threats to my wife’s blog. This continued off and on for a year or so. She’d move to another target, we’d warn said target, and they would block her. She’d then claim that we were part of some uber-hacking group that hacked into everyone’s account to force them to block her when they really all agreed with her. This also extended to police departments. We apparently hacked the police to make her complaints vanish after she was personally told that they would arrest us. Neither the hacking nor the police personally arresting us ever actually happened, of course.
Eventually, I found her IP address and hatched a plan to block her from my website. I edited my site so that she would get a 404 Page Not Found error if she tried to visit my page, while everyone else would get the normal site (Being a web developer is handy at times). She began posting about her success at taking me offline. She’s still online and bothering people. Boy George and the head of Firefox are among her past targets. She’s left me alone for years, though. I’ve since stopped blogging, but not due to her, and I cut back the social media use, so I don’t think she’ll focus on me again. I don’t even wish for her to be arrested, but to get the psychiatric care that she so obviously needs.”
“Her Eyes Are Always On Me”
“In college, I used to deliver pizza to a certain hotel quite frequently. There was a cute girl at the front desk that would smile, and sometimes I would bring her a slice. One day she asks if I want to grab a drink after work and I’m down. It turns into this two-hour long vent session about her ex, during which time she has a solitary drink. She says she never has more than one drink out, which I get because she is freaking tiny. Anyway, twenty minutes in, I try to change the subject or try to intersperse something here or there just to maintain a semblance of a conversation. She finally leaves, the bartender pours me and himself a stronger drink, and just gives me the ‘glad that’s over’ look.
A week or so later, I’m back delivering to the restaurant and front desk girl mentions that she is bummed I haven’t asked her out. I figure she may have just been having a rough day, so I’ll give her another shot. We agree to grab another drink at my normal spot after work. This time she doesn’t show, which I’m fine with at this point. I have a nice night with some friends and don’t think much of it. She texts me the next day saying sorry for not showing, she says her friends needed her help after a break up and she needed to drink an entire bottle of Jack with her as tradition. At this point her behavior is inconsistent and strange, and I decide to steer clear from here on in.
Now for the creepy part. Every time I would go into the hotel for delivery, she would be there and ask me why I haven’t tried to hang out, and I would make some excuse. At one point I claimed to be sober to avoid getting a drink. I started to get texts from her late at night that were kind of cryptic. Things along the line of, ‘You should really reconsider that thing’ or, ‘I think the server Molly isn’t very cute.’
Things that were just out of left field, you know, like a crazy person would send. The days go by and I’m working and delivering to her hotel, and her eyes are just always on me. If she was talking to a guest, she would break her conversation to look at me. It was beyond unnerving. As a delivery drivers, we would normally fight over who got the delivery to that hotel because it was so easy, but I started to give them away because this girl was creeping me the out.”
Paige Goes On A Rampage
“I was in my third year at college and had just become the president of the anime club. Most of the members had graduated last year so I was determined to recruit as many new members as possible. And my way of doing that was to befriend them and given them more of a reason to show up every week. But that backfired with one woman. I’ll call her Paige. Paige was a freshman, and according to others, was in love with me from the moment she met me. Shortly after the semester started, it had gotten out that I’d broken up with my girlfriend over the summer. What hadn’t gotten out was that the reason I broke up with her was because I finally came out as gay to myself. Only three people knew at that point, including my two best friends and my ex. Now that the club knew I was single, there were apparently a few girls that had a thing for me, because Paige actually started a fistfight on campus when she overheard another club member say she was going to ask me out. The only reason I knew this was because one of my best friends was actually in the bathroom when it happened and was the one to call campus security.
But that wasn’t the end of it. Whenever the club members ate lunch or dinner at the student commons, Paige would make sure to sit as close as possible to me, and would laugh way too hard at everything I said and touch my arm/shoulder/body as many times as she could. She even went so far as to put her hand on my inner thigh once, she would have gone all the way to the groin if I hadn’t stood up and walked away. She then chased after me and forced her arms around me and wouldn’t let go until I accepted her apology. When I would hang out with other club members, she’d always find out and force herself to come along. My best friends and I had a tradition of watching Disney movies every Saturday night to de-stress and would invite other friends to it, so of course Paige showed up. She also would make sure to comment throughout the whole movie about how she was like the princess/heroine and I was like the prince/hero. She’d also make sure to slowly scoot closer to me throughout the movie. When we watched Brave, I got up and changed seats three different times just to get away from her. She even showed up outside my best friend’s dorm room when it was just me and two friends and basically forced her way into the room (my best friends had known about my run-ins with Paige ever since the hand on the thigh incident, so they ended our hang-out early just to get rid of her).
Paige even started hanging out my dorm building, even though her dorm was on the other side of campus. I used to just keep my door propped open because the a/c sucked, and then my other friends in the building could just drop in whenever. But ever since the first time she waltzed into my room, I stopped doing that and made my friends text me when they got outside. I also wore headphones whenever I was on my laptop or listening to music, because if Paige was outside and heard movement, she would hang on the door until I could text my floor’s advisor to get rid of her.
About halfway through the year, she asked me when I was going to ask her out, and I straight up said, ‘Never, I’m gay.’
And her response was, ‘Oh I can fix that.’
Enough was enough at that point. I had come out to a majority of my friends at this point, so I got them all together and told them about everything to do with Paige. They formed the anti-Paige defense squad, and made sure that whenever we were out, in the club, at lunch/dinner, or just hanging out, I would always have the seats next to me filled with one of them (there was actually a time when we were at Dairy Queen and she literally popped into existence next to our table). One friend even started throwing herself into my lap whenever Paige showed up, just to try to deter her.
Paige didn’t give up until the end of the year. It was finals week and I had this 8 a.m. final one day, so I forced myself to eat breakfast that day, even though I normally don’t. I found only one friend for breakfast, and we grabbed a table far from the entrance and out of view. Regardless, Paige found us and announced her finals were already done and she would be moving out of her dorm today. She forced me to promise her that I would be there to see her off. Obviously, I didn’t and stayed with a friend off campus until the end of the day. I also blocked in my phone and ignored her friend request since I no long had any obligation to her as club president over the summer.
I moved off campus for my fourth year, and I found out that she had moved into the dorm I’d previously been living in, so I don’t think she gave up right away. One of my nosy friends is still online friends with Paige and keeps me updated. Paige had started dating another guy from the anime club a few months into her second year and eventually married him in her third year (he’s actually seven years older than her and we know that he used to beat his old girlfriend). She even posted online about doing it with him in great detail We even found out they have a kid on the way, so even though none of my friends nor I like Paige, we hope that she and that poor kid aren’t going to be in any danger or taken advantage of.
Bonus: Paige was going to be a teacher, but she was fired from her job as a lifeguard/swim instructor at the University pool because she couldn’t handle children in a professional manner. Plus, she got caught shoplifting from the student store once, and her reason being that since she was going to be a teacher, she needed to get those bad impulses out of her system now.
Double Bonus: that girl that Paige got into a fistfight with? She asked me out during my fourth year of college in front of the whole club. That’s when I formally came out to the entire anime club, not just my friend circle within the club.”
Was He Hallucinating The Whole Thing?
“I was at a friend’s birthday party for her dog (this was probably was just an excuse to have people over and get wasted) and another friend, lets call her M, is also there. I had known M for a couple of years, but I only really ever see her a couple of times a year. She is very wasted, and also very married. Her husband was also at the same party. At one point in the night, she asks me if I have a girlfriend (I did not), if I am looking for a girlfriend, and where I would be looking for a girlfriend. Then she says that I had been looking in all the wrong places and that, if I wanted a good girl, I should ‘let her know’.
During this conversation, she also kept trying to grab my hand, and so at one point, I made sure to always be holding a handful of mini-pretzels in both of my hands as a sort of excuse to not be able to hold hands. I can’t hold hands if I am holding pretzels. Logic.
Then finally she says, ‘I like you, I really like you.’
I just try to respond with ‘okay’ and leave it at that. This repeats for a while until she says, ‘Stop saying okay. It makes me feel like you think I’m being fake.’
Then she keeps following me around the room and keeps trying to make me dance with her until I leave. Her husband was pretty much always in the same room as us, no more than a few feet away while this was all happening. I thought I was crazy and imagining it all until another friend asked me on the same night as we were leaving, ‘Was M trying to hit on you?’
Crazy Is Bursting At The Seams
“We met online, but I lived in a small town about an hour away from the big city she was in. I was desperate, but now I realize with all the people in the city, it should have been a warning sign that her distance was set so high. While I knew most the time people meet for the first time on the date, my traditional values still had me offering to pick her up beforehand, and surprisingly she accepted. I arrive to pick her up, knock on her door, she answered and hands me a cat. Apparently, she was trying to herd the other cat away from the door with her foot and she needed her hands. She invited me in because she wanted me to see her art that she sold online before we left to the theater. She had made phone cases with Barbie heads sticking out and earrings with googly eyes. It was all terrible.
The date went fine, and I continued to text her the next day (as I said before I was desperate, there literally wasn’t a single girl my age in my whole town.) Sunday night comes around, I text her goodnight. She replied goodnight, and I go to sleep. I woke up to over twenty messages. She started at two in the morning and then sent a second message five minutes later, asking why I didn’t respond. Then only a couple minutes later, she started to rant about how this always happens to her and every guy ignores her. Then she starts asking what is wrong with her and just kept going on and on. When I finished reading it, I was flabbergasted. I ended up texting her to explain that I had gone to bed, and it’s very important to me that I’m well rested to teach, so I don’t respond to texts after I go to bed. I then apologized and told her I did not think that we were going to work, and it wasn’t because any of the things she listed.”

“Last year I dated this one girl for a few weeks. I met this girl through online dating. She’s cute and friendly. First two dates go smoothly. She’s a lot less wild than me but otherwise nothing awkward. She was a nice girl, but there were some obvious red flags that slowly cropped up over the weeks. Overall it was because she had absolutely no life: no interests, no friends (and she had close to a tantrum when I tried introducing her to my friends), no hobbies besides reality television, and was still working at her high school fast food job despite being 32. She told me she wanted to get married at her great uncle’s church, by her great uncle (pushing like 90 years old). I told her I’m agnostic on the first date, but for the right person I figured I could warm to the idea. Hey, gotta be flexible in dating, right?
By the third date it gets weird. She asked me to go to church with her one Sunday, her great uncle’s church. Also, it turns out the church staff is pretty much most of her gigantic extended family. Her great uncle delivers a sermon about how purgatory is a real place and you will go there if you sin. I meet like 15 of her extended relatives. They are all super friendly in that stiff church-y way. I have the social skills to shmooze with strangers easily, but I was definitely uncomfortable. She makes plans for a corn maze afterwards with her coworkers. On the way over, she tells me that she thinks we’re ready for ‘the L level’. Yes, that was how she phrased it. This is when the sirens start to flash red for me. I told her that I wanted to wait and see. At the corn maze, her coworkers are all in their early twenties or younger. We are probably the two oldest people there minus their supervisor. I attempt to socialize. She does not.
On the way home, she asks if I plan to be at Thanksgiving with her. I remind her that this is our third date, she barely knows anything about me at all (she really didn’t), and that I’d think about it as the day approached. I tell her the next day via text that we need to pump the breaks. She understands, but then follows up saying she’s ‘looking forward to our journey together’. Sirens are flashing louder. I tell her how important my friends are to me. Like, I constantly see a large circle of people across multiple days of the week. I told her on our first date that the make-or-break topic for me was if she could be friends with them too. I start to notice she never mentions any of her own friends.
By the fifth date, I’m introducing her to four of my friends. Not just nervous, but has a mini-meltdown. I take her to my room so she can calm down. She starts to sing songs from The Sound of Music (her absolute favorite movie) to try to self-soothe (yes, really). She gets freaked out by my friend’s tattoos. The tattoo in question was a sleeve of Tetris blocks (yes, we are very dorky people). On the final date, she takes me to a huge benefit event for one of her cousins who died. I meet like 30 more extended family. Literally get introduced to all of them, and then we make no attempts to socialize with anyone. I can’t handle that type of boredom. I point to a table of people around our age with a bunch of drinks at their table, looks like they’re having a great time. I believe she called them ‘the popular kids’ and doesn’t want to go over. She is 32 years old.
She asks me if I want to make it official, and she reminds me that she doesn’t break up with her boyfriends. Later on, she asks what a reasonable timeline is for when couples should move in. My break up call happened the next day. She was upset when we broke up, but overall didn’t make a huge deal over it. She wanted to stay in contact, but we lost touch almost immediately, as I did not want to drag anything out. Six months later I was back to dating and had made it official with a different girl. While out at a friends house one night, I decided to take a selfie of us and post it online. In the morning my girlfriend alerted me to a nasty comment left by the previous girl. It was middle school level stuff. She outright insulted my girlfriend saying literally, ‘Ew, she has big teeth,’ adding that she thought she was going to have second chance with me.
Keep in mind, we had absolutely zero communication in those six months. Never once did I give her the impression I was interested in seeing her again. I was super upset at her for the teeth comment, and my girlfriend was a little upset, but at least we’ve gotten a lot of laughs out of it since then. Glad I dodged that bullet. I know, looking back at all of that, most people would have left before all that. Truth be told, she was my first real attempt at finding a long-term partner after having dated very few people over the years. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, so I was trying to be as flexible as possible.
Also, I don’t think she really knew what she was doing was weird and pushy. I got the impression she was from a very traditional family, and had her own set of ideas of what dating was meant to lead to, and was just pursuing that end. I think in her mind, things like a career, passion, or friends just wasn’t as important as starting a family. I also suspect she stopped growing personally around high school, because she never had to push herself while waiting for Mr. Right. When she wasn’t doing her weird stuff, she was a decent person to be around (before she insulted my girlfriend, that is).”
He Can Never Escape Robin
It began as a blind date when I was 22. She (let’s call her Robin) showed up at my place early and I had a few friends there. As soon as this girl poked her little snout inside, I had a bad feeling. Especially considering I hadn’t given her my address, and we were supposed to meet at the restaurant, an hour and a half from then. I didn’t back out, although I knew that there’s no way it was going anywhere. We went to dinner, where she insisted on sitting right next to me, at the risk of getting popped with my left elbow, every time I took a bite. She was handsy, smelled like my grandma’s Avon, and talked with her mouth full when she wasn’t chewing open-mouthed and smacking. On the drive back to my house to get her car, we were heading down a fairly dark road, and I noticed she was breathing heavily and sitting funny in the seat. I turned on the dome light, and she was doing it on my new velour truck seats. GAME. OVER.
I was about a half-mile from my house. I pulled over and made her get out. I had asked her throughout dinner to keep her conversation clean, and her hands to herself. Both of which she refused to do. She asked me several times and/or made references to the size of my privates. This was it for me. Now, you would think that putting her out of the truck, and forcing her to walk a half-mile down a dark road, would be enough for her to just get to her car and leave, never to return, but you would be OH. SO. MISTAKEN. This was a Saturday night, and it was moving close to midnight when I let her out. On any given Saturday night back then, somewhere around midnight to 1 a.m., I would get a booty call from the same young lady, (We’ll call her Cecelia) and she would drop by for a few hours of playtime. This Saturday was no different, other than the fact that we had made arrangements for her to come by after she left the club, and she was in my driveway when I arrived home. The perfect ending to an awful night. Well, Cecelia and I got ourselves comfy and began getting frisky. Things were getting very heated when all of a sudden I see the face in the window at the same time Cecelia screams and jumps from the bed. Robin is watching us, and picking up where she left off in the truck.
Fast-forward 14 months. I have a new place, new number, I am 3 months from getting married, and I have a live-in fiancé. The phone rings one afternoon and when I answer it, this chipper voice on the other end calls me by name and says, ‘Boy, you’re hard to find. This is Robin.’
My blood immediately ran cold, because it took me forever to get her to stop calling and coming by after I was rid of her that Saturday night, so long ago. I asked her how she got my number, what she wanted, and why she was calling. I explained that I was about to be married, so she needed to leave me alone. I hung up the phone and that evening opened up to my future bride about the incident and the history behind it. Her response? Horse-like, breathless, rolling on the floor, laughter. Well, it wasn’t so funny when two weeks later, we were walking down our street one evening and Robin comes running out of a house to greet us. She had moved into our neighborhood. Later we see that she’s a cashier out the grocery store we frequented, and we see her in the dance club we went to on the weekends. The final straw is when she showed up at our church. Now, I know this sounds like a bad movie, but every word is the gospel truth.
We ended up breaking our lease, hiring a moving company, recruited 20 or so friends, and got out of that house, just when we knew that she’d be working. I had to put our utilities in my sister’s married name, unlist our number, and we went so far as to forward our mail to a rented mail box in a town 10 miles from our home. Robin faded from our lives like campfire smoke until we saw her with an old friend of my wife’s about 6 months later, at a Christmas party. We took him aside, filled him in on everything and that’s the last we ever saw of Robin for a while.
My wife passed on 3 1/2 years later, and I received a condolence card at the funeral home, with some ugly plant that looked like it had been yanked out of a yard at midnight, a month before. On it were the words, ‘Sorry for your loss. Call me if you want to talk. Robin.’
That was the last time I heard from her, but even though we had moved across the country, I was very vigilant about keeping my children close to me for many years, just because I had no idea what this crazy, psychotic, piece of human filth might try to do next. I know she’s still out there. Somewhere.”
