Is being a Hooters girl really all it's cracked up to be? This former Hooters girl shares the dirty secrets you need to know about the chain restaurant. Source
There’s nothing worse than catty girls.
You said working at Hooters was the worst job. Was it the worst just due to customers or was the corporate culture and management shitty?
The girls were catty and rude and the management were pigs. The customers were pigs. Girls did drugs in the bathroom, management hooked up with girls in the restaurant. It was a mess.
You have to get your look pre-approved.
I heard a rumour that you weren’t allowed to change your appearance once hired is this true? Do they really care that much?
If you want to change something about your appearance, it has to be approved before hand by management. You can’t have any tattoos. No piercings. No unusual colored hair. None of that.
I got out of there as fast as I could.
What finally made you leave your job at Hooters?
I paid for college with the money from Hooters. So when I graduated college, I quit.
I did meet some pretty cool people though.
What was the best part of the job? What advice would you give to someone considering working there? What’s your dream job?
The best part of working there was meeting some really cool people despite all the usual pigs. You just talked to people all day long, so you got to know a few awesome people. My advice for someone considering working at Hooters, don’t. Don’t do it. My current job is pretty rad, actually. So for right now that’s my dream job.
It just comes with the territory.
Do you ever get over the ogling and forget how you are dressed or are you constantly conscious of it no matter how long you work there?
You get used to it sadly.
At least they weren’t pushy.
Did the management team ever suggest you to do something you did not want to do? Like surgery for example ?
No, luckily they weren’t pushy like that.
No, nothing like that.
Did you ever hook up with a customer?
I actually ended up dating someone I met as a customer. But it wasn’t just a random hook up.
The job was pretty easy.
How difficult was the job compared to how much money you made? Also, who were the best and worst tippers?
The job was cake. Smile. Look pretty. Carry food. Take money. $$$$$$$$
It did pay pretty well.
How much money did you make working at Hooters?
I actually made about 60,000 dollars per year.
No boners here.
Roughly how many awkward boners did you have to ignore?
Not as many as you would think. But there was this one man who used to always jerk off in the bathroom. The customers would always complain about hearing it from their tables, it was that loud. He was the only one I can remember that we had to deal with thankfully.
They give you a stern talking to.
Does the management team fire you or give you warning if you gain weight?
They “talk to you.”
The job will destroy you.
Okay: you mentioned the girls were rude and catty, and that’s honestly why I never go to Hooters. I can get eye candy on the internet, and I can get a rude server literally anywhere. So my question: after a time of getting ogled and harassed every day by the customers that were assholes, did you feel yourself becoming rude and bitchy? I always suspected the girls’ mistreatment was the cause of their attitudes.
Edit: hey, I thought of another question. I fucking hate those shorts. They look like circa 1975 roller derby shit. Were they ever talking about updating the uniform?
Yes. If you’re not strong minded, that job will destroy you. It makes you hate the way you look and hate men and even hate women. Because seldom does a woman dine at Hooters who is kind to the waitress. And the money goes to a lot of people’s heads. You have to be careful because it will totally turn you cynical to the world. Been there.
Eh, nothing too bad.
What was the most demeaning thing you had to do for a tip?
Nothing too bad. But some people would want to put tips in your shirt. That’s about it.
