Neighbors can sometimes “make or break” a home which is unfortunate considering you don’t have much of a say in who you live by. From being spied on to cleaning eggs off their cars, these folks have some of the worst neighbors you can imagine. Here are ten stories in which people expose their entitled neighbors. This content has been edited for clarity.
Spying Through Windows

“One day I was sick with a fever so I was spending most of the day lying in bed. Around noon, I moved to the living room couch because it was getting really hot in my room. For some context, our living room is filled with large windows. I still felt too hot on the couch so I took off my shirt and was just wearing a bra. After a few minutes, there was a knock on the door and my mom went to answer it.
The living room is right next to the door, so it wasn’t hard to hear the conversation. My mom opened the door and the neighbor who we’ll call Karen was there and said,
‘Hi Suzan (my mom’s name), how are you doing? I came over to ask you to tell your daughter to cover up.’
My mom then reasonably said, ‘Excuse me?’
Karen replied, ‘Yes, it’s kind of disgusting what she’s doing, exposing herself like that.’
My mom, now a bit less patient, said, ‘Oh I’m sorry, I didn’t know that YOU could tell ME what to do with MY kids in MY house.’
Karen then replied, ‘Oh no, that’s not what I’m trying to do, it’s just that my husband’s office is right across from your windows and it’s hard for him to concentrate on work when there’s an unclothed teen on the other side of his window.’
My mom, just about as dumbfounded as I was at that point, told Karen, ‘Okay three things: first, my daughter’s not unclothed and even if she was, it wouldn’t matter because she lives here and can wear whatever she wants. Second, what is your 45-year-old husband doing looking at my 17-year-old daughter in her underwear? And third, get off my property because we’re done here.’
With that, my mom slammed the door in Karen’s face. We haven’t heard from them since and my mom bought curtains for the living room windows.”
Tow Truck

“My parents live in a fairly expensive, safe, and public neighborhood they retired to after a long career life. Because it’s a public community, meaning it has no gate to enter, it picks up crime every few years. There had been some recent break-ins that were putting people on edge making them report everything. For example, my mom got reported for walking the family dog at seven pm on the same loop she does every day, at the same time, for the past five years.
A bit on me: I’m six feet tall with a big beard, bald head, a moderate build, and tend to wear button-down shirts when I’m not working. One weekend, I went to visit my parents and parked my brand-new truck outside of their house, visible from their living room window. Because the community is public, all the streets are public as well meaning it is legal to park on them, even if you aren’t a resident.
About 45 minutes after arriving, I was talking with my parents in their living room when a tow truck pulled up and started hooking up my truck. I ran out yelling obscenities. The tow truck said they had a call about an illegally parked vehicle. After explaining it was a public area and was by no means illegal to park there, I asked for the contact info of the reporting individual.
I didn’t get much info besides a first name. We’ll call her Karen for the sake of the story. I asked my parents and they gave a fair-sized frown like they already knew it was her. Apparently, Karen and her family had moved in across the street a few months back.
I walked over to the house and saw various toys and such all over the front side of it. I knocked on the door but there was no answer. I rang the buzzer on their ring camera and heard a bit of yelling at kids to stop running around. I then knew she was home so I kept ringing the door. As I was waiting, I noticed she had multiple cameras on me.
She finally answered the door and asked me what I wanted in a rude tone.
In a calm voice, I asked, ‘Why did you call a tow truck on my vehicle?’
‘You shouldn’t be parking there. I’ve never seen you before and it’s illegal to park there if you’re not a resident. We don’t need convicts around here looking for homes to case.’
‘Convicts? Why would you think that? This is a public street, so I can legally park there anytime I wish. I’m visiting my parents and have a right to park there without being towed. Leave my truck alone,’ I replied.
Not ten minutes later, I looked out of the window to see two young boys egging my truck. I ran outside, grabbed the hose, and sprayed the boys and my truck down. The boys ran back to where they come from and it happened to be Karen’s house. I decided to leave it be because I was leaving in 30 minutes anyways.
15 minutes later, a police officer knocked on the front door and asked,
‘Is that your truck?’
I replied, ‘Yes it is, officer.’
‘We received a report that the owner of the truck was driving recklessly in the neighborhood and almost ran over two children. After getting out of the vehicle, he yelled at the children and proceeded to hose them down with a strong water hose,’ he said.
‘Officer, that’s a heck of a story. Would you be interested in coming into my parent’s home and we’ll pull up the cameras while I explain my side of the story?’ I asked.
The officer accepted and while we viewed my parent’s cameras, I explained everything including the full conversation I had with Karen, how she insinuated I was a convict, and how I partially made a threat. I apologized and said I should have caught myself sooner. I also mentioned the multiple cameras Karen had at her door.
‘Thank you for your time. I may be back in a bit after I have a talk with your neighbor,’ the officer said.
20 minutes passed and there was some yelling in the backyard.
The officer came back and said, ‘I’ve talked with the neighbor about her and her children’s actions. Would you be interested in pressing charges for the destruction of property?’
I replied, ‘No officer, they’re just kids and were likely doing what Karen told them to. Were you able to check her cameras?’
‘No, she denied access. She shouldn’t be bothering you again but if she does, please don’t hesitate to call the non-emergency line and ask for me directly,’ he responded.
I left not long after. So far there hasn’t been any retaliation against my parents.”
Day At The Pool

“My family moved to a nice neighborhood and our new house had a pool. Right next door was a fairly small house with a very small backyard. The family who lived there had three kids and were very entitled.
On the very first day of our pool being filled up, the neighbors helped their three kids climb over our fence, did the same themselves, and started using our pool. When my brother and I went out to the pool, we were shocked to see random people using it. We told our parents and my dad went outside to check things out.
Dad: ‘Hello, can you please tell me who allowed you to use the pool?’
Neighbor: ‘Oh, we’re good friends with the owner. He lets us use it when he isn’t around.’
Dad: ‘Oh, I must be mistaken because as far as I know, we own this house.’
My dad flashed his house keys.
Neighbor: Well, you weren’t using it when we got here, so you have to wait now.’
Dad: ‘Sir, the door was locked and there is no backdoor, so you probably climbed the fence. That is trespassing, so I can get you arrested. Before this escalates to that point, I suggest you leave.’
Neighbor: ‘Well, you have no proof.’
My dad pointed to our backyard camera.
Neighbor: ‘Ugh, just let the kids swim, they really want to.’
Dad: ‘There is a community pool nearby, you can go there with your kids.’
Neighbor: ‘No, there are too many people there.’
Dad: ‘Please leave or we will call the cops.’
Neighbor: ‘Ugh fine, we’re leaving.’
We had to clean the pool again as the kids had wet dirt on their feet and one of the kids peed in the pool. How do we know, you ask? We checked the camera and saw him standing outside the pool peeing into it. Seriously unbelievable.”
Personal Taxi

“My neighbor and I had a decent relationship until I began refusing to be her taxi. She didn’t drive and at the time, I was a stay-at-home mom with a toddler and two in school. She first began by coming by one afternoon asking if I could take her and her kids to the dentist. I said ‘sure’ because it wasn’t too far. Another time, her child needed to be seen at urgent care and she needed me to take them. That is when the issues first began.
That particular day, I had a contractor at the house and I needed to be there. She told me I needed to hurry and I said if it was an emergency, she should call for emergency services or an Uber. She said it could wait. When the contractor was done, I took them to urgent care and picked them up. This went on for a while off and on. It started getting a little frustrating, but I was trying to be neighborly.
One day, I got a text asking if I’d left to take my kids to school. I had. She said her’s overslept and wanted me to drop them off for her. Our kids went to different schools but I said I would take them but she needed to come too because I couldn’t sign them in. Overall, I spent an extra 40 minutes driving that morning with my toddler who doesn’t love being in the car. Then a pattern emerged. The kids kept oversleeping and she kept knocking on my door or texting me. I try to run errands after I drop my kids off so I was usually out.
One day I got a text from the neighbor, ‘Where are you? Will you be back from taking your kids to school soon? Mine need a ride.’
‘No, I won’t be home soon,’ I replied.
‘Could your husband drive since he works from home?’ she asked.
‘Um, no. He’s working,’ I replied.
She got snippy and said she’d have to call them out of school again even though they’d already missed too much. I ignored that and went about my errands.
My toddler had some health complications so we were often at the doctor. I got another text asking where I was and when I’d be home. I said I was in the next city over and didn’t know when I’d be home. I said she needed to call an Uber but she claimed Uber was unsafe and she would get killed. She then said she would get a ride to her appointment in that same city and I could wait for her to be done and take her home.
The straw was a few weeks later. She met me outside while I was doing yard work and said she got her kid signed up for an orthodontist and needed me to drive them to monthly appointments and she would pay for gas. The kicker was the orthodontist was about a 40-minute drive in a bad part of town. I flat-out told her no. She started arguing but I stayed firm in my answer. She grew cold towards me and we haven’t spoken in three years.”
Crazy Karen

“In 2017, I moved into a new house in a cul-de-sac. My next-door neighbors were so nice, helped me move in, and treated me to Taco Bell for the first time. After a few years, a Karen moved in with her husband. They weren’t the nicest people. They were very reclusive and always cleaning their garage, which was always a mess. They also brought three dogs with them.
About a year had passed when I woke up to police sirens outside my house around seven am. I looked out the window and saw Karen, who was pregnant, being walked to a police car while her husband screamed at the police. I called my neighbor who turned out to be the one who called the police. It turned out Karen was keeping stray cats ‘for her future child’ in her house, but never took care of them. According to the police, she had over 20 dead cats, half of which looked under a year old. I was absolutely horrified and gave the police my statement.
Not even three months later, I was hanging out on my front lawn when I noticed Karen’s dogs were pushing at a window and barking. I thought nothing of it until they proceeded to break the glass and started B-lining to me. I scrambled and went inside and my neighbors, who watched the whole thing, called the police again. The dogs ran away and from what I heard, were run over. Apparently, Karen hadn’t fed the dogs for two weeks and never let them out of the room.
The next incident was when Karen begged my other neighbor, who used to be in the military, to give her money to throw a baby shower. Of course, he declined. After a bit of back and forth, Karen snapped and started screaming profanities and threatening to harm him. He tried to calm her down, but she started hitting him, so he restrained her and called the cops. This time, she was arrested and is going to go on trial.
Shortly after, I walked by her house and saw a painted sign in her window that was showing the middle finger in the direction of both of my neighbor’s houses. Upon closer inspection, it turned out there was a knife sticking out of it. I informed my neighbors and left it at that.”
Exotic Pets

“To start this off, I have some unconventional pets: tarantulas, snakes, a spoiled mouse, and some conventional pets like cats and dogs. As such, I’ve gotten a lot of pushback from entitled people. However, this last interaction takes the cake.
I was out walking one of my dogs when I heard screaming coming from a few houses down. When I got closer, I found out it was my new neighbor screaming at Ray, the pest control guy. This woman is a shorter Hispanic woman with short, brightly colored hair, and spit was practically flying from her mouth. A young, bored-looking boy stood in the doorway of the house. When Ray saw me, he waved me over quickly.
‘Look! Tex (me) here can tell you we are just walking around the house to do pest control! We are hired by the HOA,” Ray practically sobs.
‘Hi, Ray really does work for the HOA as pest management. However, if you don’t feel comfortable with Ray or his company being around your house, you can just tell him to mark you down as a skip,’ I said.
‘Yes! I don’t want those people walking around my house! My sweet baby was playing outside and he scared him!’ the neighbor screamed.
Ray looked relieved for a split second and said, ‘Yes, we can certainly put you on the skip list or even as a partial skip as Tex does.’
‘A partial skip?’ the neighbor asked confused.
‘Yep, I have some exotic pets that are sensitive to the spray they use, so they skip the window to their room,’ I told her with a smile.
‘Exotic pets?!’ the neighbor’s son said peeking up.
I smiled while going into full teacher mode. I explained how I have many different kinds of pets. I told them I take in a lot of specialty pets people buy before doing the research on them. The more I talked, the more excited the boy looked, and the more horrified his mother did.
‘Wait!’ she interrupted, ‘What kind of monsters are you keeping?!’
‘Excuse me? They aren’t monsters, they are just awesomely uncommon pets,’ I snapped, slightly annoyed.
‘Snakes! Spiders! They are monsters! How can you keep them? Honestly, I would burn the whole house to the ground and take the loss,’ she screeched.
Something you should know is that as a child, I did in fact have a house burn down. Both my parents were badly burned and spent months in the hospital. My brother and I had nowhere to go as none of my family could or would take us in. The firefighters ended up cleaning out a back room at the station and let us live there for a month before my mom was released from the hospital. The threat of going through that again shook me to my core.
‘That kind of joke isn’t funny. You wouldn’t say that to someone who owned a dog or a cat, so don’t say it to me. I’ve been through the aftermath of losing a house to a fire, it’s not something to use as an empty threat,’ I snarled.
‘Who said it was an empty threat?’ she snipped.
Everyone froze. I can’t imagine what my face must have looked like. Ray looked between us and took a step away from me.
‘It better be because I have enough cameras that alert me if anyone steps onto my property. I also have enough ammo to bring down a small army. Take from that what you will,’ I snarled, grinning like a shark.
‘Was that a threat?!’ she gasped.
‘As long as you don’t plan to follow through with yours, I won’t be forced to follow through with mine,’ I said sharply.
She stormed back up the drive, leaving her now wide-eyed son behind.”
Rumor Has It

“My brothers and I were friends with our neighbor’s son, EK (entitled kid) for a while but EK was usually pretty rude and mean to us.
One day, EK came over to my house and noticed my brothers and their friends were playing Minecraft on a Wii U. He decided he wanted to join too, but there were only four spots available on the screen and they were all taken up. My younger brother told EK he would have to wait to play because people were already playing Minecraft. Out of nowhere, EK burst into tears and ran out of the house. It was really surprising because he was seen as the ‘cool kid’ and he was older than us.
A couple of minutes later, EK came back to our house with his EM (entitled mother) and younger sister. My older brother opened the door and EM walked straight in without saying a word and started screaming at my younger brother for not letting EK play on our game console. My younger brother started crying and then my father came in and told her to leave his house. EM walked out to the front porch and when my father was closing the door, she tried to barge in again, but she got the door slammed in her face.
A couple of days later, we went to our other neighbor’s house and they said there was a rumor that EM got pushed by my father, but most people knew my father and knew that he would never do something like that.
EM seemed fine before that event happened and she acted nice but now we try to avoid her.”
Broken Property

“We have had a number of terrible neighbors over the years, but this one stands out. This particular family would let their kids play outside unsupervised all day, and the kids would frequently come into my yard. I don’t mind kids playing in my yard necessarily, but I can’t be responsible for them. We nicely asked the dad several times to keep his children in his own yard, and he would say things like,
‘Our yard is small and they need space to run around.’
Sometimes he would bring them back to his yard, but usually within a few minutes, they would be back. One time, he and a few other adults who had also brought their kids were outside having a get-together. The adults were sitting around talking and the kids were playing in our yard and trashing our swing set. We said something to them and they glared at us and then brought the kids back to their yard.
We went out for the day and when we came back, two of the swings on the swing set were missing, and the see-saw that was attached to it had been completely broken off and left there. The dad had left a note for us on our door which said,
‘My kids broke your swing set. I tried to keep them off it, but kids will be kids. I can dispose of it for you if you want.’
We were so fed up at that point, we didn’t even want to deal with him so we disposed of it ourselves. Thankfully, that family moved away shortly after, and no one got hurt on my property. I wouldn’t want to deal with that idiot in a frivolous lawsuit.”
Ruined Reputation

“My parents moved into our family house when my brother was a baby. The next-door neighbors just so happened to also have a baby boy the same age.
I don’t remember anything crazy about the dad other than him being a pushover. But the mom was actually crazy. Things started getting crazy when the boys were old enough for ‘play dates,’ usually in the connecting backyards. I won’t give away any real names, but I’ll call the neighbor kid Tom, and my brother we’ll call Evan.
When Tom and Evan would play, they’d do the usual little boy thing, like play fighting and stuff. But Tom would actually wack my poor brother as hard as he could and laugh. Evan would come running back home crying constantly. The mom always shook it off and said he was being dramatic or that her kid was just trying to have fun. He hurt my brother so many times with cut lips and bloody noses he gave up trying to play with him.
Then my mom noticed something weird. Any time Evan would get something, like a new toy for his birthday or a slip n’ slide over the summer, Tom would have one the next day, but it was bigger and better.
The worst part was one day, around five years old, they were playing doctor. Nothing ever got weird or went too far, but Tom told his mom Evan did something inappropriate (which didn’t happen) and she freaking lost it. She came over and screamed at my mom, accusing Evan of abusing her son. She then went door to door in the neighborhood and tried to tell all the parents what my brother had done, and tried to get my mom fired from her job.
Thankfully, they all knew she was crazy and knew my mom was quiet and nice and didn’t gossip about stuff. Needless to say, my mom didn’t lose her job, but that lady lost her reputation in the neighborhood.”
First Come, First Serve

“In the building where my family and I live, there is a parking lot underneath. All of the parking spots are rented and taken except for two spots at the side of the entrance to the lot. The building agreed that those spots are free for people who live in the building and don’t have rented spots, like children who can’t park where their parents park. Basically, it’s a matter of first come, first serve for those two spots.
One day, I was coming back from taking out the trash when a neighbor confronted me.
‘Is your car parked at the entrance?’ he asked.
‘Yeah, is something wrong?’ I replied.
‘Yeah, something’s wrong, I have trouble coming in and out of the lot because of you. You’re blocking the path!’ he said.
‘No, I’m not, and it’s an agreed parking spot. If I parked incorrectly, I can go check it,’ I said.
‘You need to leave that parking spot. My kids are coming over and they need a place to park,’ he replied.
‘Wait what? You’re telling me to leave that parking spot just so your kids who don’t live here could come over? No, I’m not gonna leave,’ I said.
‘You kids are so disrespectful (I’m 21)! You all park like it’s Chicago up in here! I’m gonna call a tow truck on you if you don’t move your car right now!’ he said.
‘Bye,’ I replied.
‘You have until Sunday!’ he yelled.”
