Dating can be a real challenge, especially when your date turns out to be less than desirable. Here are some utterly ridiculous dating experiences that left people with no option but to make a swift exit. Content has been edited for clarity.
Karaoke Gone Wrong

“OKCupid date – we emailed back and forth, had some common interests, and it seemed like we would get along. We met up and got some food and a couple of drinks, and it seemed like we were getting along well. Then he started talking about how good he is at karaoke, mentioning that he’s been in contests and even won first place, and how he and his friends go all the time.
I told him I’d only done karaoke a few times, always when I was drinking and with a big group of friends. I also mentioned that I’m pretty sure I’m tone-deaf.
He was persistent, telling me there was a karaoke place only one block away. I told him I wasn’t interested, but he insisted, saying we could get our own little booth where no one else would hear us, and we could choose any songs we wanted without waiting for others. It was clear he wasn’t giving up, so I grabbed two shots and reluctantly agreed to try it. We went to the karaoke lounge and got our booth, and he performed three or four songs perfectly.
When I started my first song, he began criticizing me and pointing out what I was doing wrong while I was trying to sing. Then, he picked up the other microphone and started singing over me.
Fed up, I said, ‘Screw this,’ and got up to leave.
He chased after me, demanding that I pay for half of the bill, which was $60. I checked my wallet, took out the only cash I had, and said, ‘Here’s $20, and you can go take a hike.’
He continued to follow me to the bus stop, attempting to make small talk while I anxiously waited to get away from him.”
Pet Peeves

“I’ve had a girl walk out on me, and it took me weeks to realize why.
This was our third date. We initially met at a nightclub randomly, where we exchanged greetings, and our groups merged (my friends and her girls). We met up again a week later at a carnival and had a great time.
On this particular day, we met up for a simple lunch at a nice little spot near my place, but we just couldn’t find anything to talk about. She seemed somewhat distant, which was odd. Lunch passed with small talk, and we paid separately. Then, she asked if she could come back to my place. I had no issues with that; she was an attractive girl, and I’m a guy. Anyhow, we got back to my place, she put on a DVD while I set up snacks on the coffee table, and we started discussing pet peeves about the opposite gender.
At first, we covered the usual topics like toilet seat positioning and the time it takes to get ready for outings. Somehow, the conversation led to a story about a girl I knew who was ‘dating’ me while having an actual boyfriend on the side, and how disrespectful it turned out to be. She just went pale, grabbed her stuff, and made some excuse about forgetting something at home. I thought I might have sounded a bit arrogant or come across as a jerk. I felt like a jerk for a day or so and moved on. My housemate ran into her and her boyfriend shopping a week later. That was awkward.”
Dude Had No Shame

“A few years ago, I went on a date with a guy from OkCupid. He took me to a 5-star restaurant. I tried to stick to moderately priced drinks and food because it was our first date. Dinner went really well, so we decided to go for post-dinner drinks. At one point, I felt I should stop drinking since it was a first date, and I wasn’t ready for him to see me intoxicated. However, he ordered me another drink and then invited me to his house because his wife was out of town.
That was the end of the date.”
