The strawberry is easily one of the most popular fruits in the world, but did you know it’s actually a nutritional powerhouse? It’s a great time to learn about the health benefits of strawberries since April through June is peak season for these bite-sized beauties. Read on for the myriad of reasons you should be eating more strawberries this year!

    Vitamin C

A serving of strawberries (5-8 berries) actually contains more Vitamin C than an orange. Vitamin C has a plethora of health benefits, including boosting the immune system, helping your body absorb iron, and facilitating bone, cartilage, and collagen formation. Additionally, recent studies have shown Vitamin C may decrease anxiety and elevate mood.

    Folic Acid

Strawberries are rich in folate too. Folate, also known as folic acid, or vitamin B-9, is important for our bodies in numerous ways. It promotes healthy cell growth, helps prevent neural birth defects, and reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke. It may even reduce the risk of some cancers, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association.

    Potassium

Another important component present in high levels in strawberries is potassium. Potassium helps keep the kidneys functioning properly, is crucial for the function of muscle and nerve cells, and helps carry electrical signals to your cells.

    Fiber

A cup of strawberries contains 3 grams of fiber, which is very high considering the low calories of the fruit. Fiber is most known for keeping the digestive system moving properly, but it also helps weight loss, lowers cholesterol, and regulates blood sugar levels! Fiber is essential for leading a healthy life supported by a healthy diet.

    Antioxidants

Plant-based foods are the best source of antioxidants, which are present in strawberries too. They combat the effects of free radicals, which can lower your risk of cancer and heart disease
