Dessert hummus is a traditional hummus recipe that uses ingredients commonly found in desserts to create a sweet spread or dip. While the most common type of dessert hummus is chocolate, there are several variations, many of which are commercially sold by through Delight By Hummus. The most popular types of dessert hummus include brownie batter hummus and snickerdoodle hummus.

This sweet treat still uses chickpeas as the base ingredient, and their creamy, slightly nutty flavor makes them a surprisingly strong ingredient for the dessert hummus. Mixing this with vanilla, caramel, and chocolate yields a creamy and delicious spread. So how exactly do you make dessert hummus? We’ve got you covered.

    • Drain and rinse the chickpeas
    • Combine all the ingredients except for the icing sugar into a blender or food processor. Blend everything together until it’s all one consistency.
    • If the mixture is too thick for your liking, try adding a tablespoon of water and blend a little more. Repeat this process until the hummus is to your preferred texture.
    • When serving the hummus, place it into a small bowl and dust the top of the hummus with icing sugar for extra sweetness, as well as visual appeal.

While traditional hummus goes perfectly with pita bread, dessert hummus will need different foods to make the most of its flavor — you’ll want both sweet and salty treats to dip.

    Fruit

Fresh fruit paired with chocolatey hummus is a match made in heaven. Strawberries, bananas, and apples are perfect snack-sized fruits that complement dessert hummus in all the right ways. It’s recommended to use green apples, as they are noticeably more tart and will pair nicely with the chocolate flavor.

    Salted Pretzels

Sweet and salty make for a great combination, and there is no better vessel for this than a nice salted pretzel. Grab a bag of these and serve with chocolate or brownie batter hummus for an irresistible snack.

    Baked Goods

Whether it be cookies, croissants or scones, baked goods are a wonderful choice when it comes to spreading or dipping with chocolate hummus. The butter in these delicious treats pairs nicely with the nutty, chocolate flavor of the hummus. For cookies, shortbreads are an especially effective choice to pair with this sweet treat.
