    Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

    Recipe

    Ingredients

    • 1 pound ground beef
    • 1 tablespoon butter
    • 1/2 yellow onion, diced
    • 1 green pepper, diced
    • 1/2 cup cremini mushrooms, coarsely chopped
    • 1/2 tablespoon garlic, minced
    • 2 tablespoons ketchup
    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
    • 1/2 teaspon black pepper
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
    • 1 cup beef broth
    • 1/4 cup Parmigiano-Reggiano, grated
    • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
    • 5 brioche buns

    Supplies

    • large skillet
    • medium bowl
    • whisk
    • small bowl
    • baking sheet

    Directions

    1. Add ground beef to a large skillet and cook until brown, on medium-high heat. Remove beef from the pan into a medium bowl and set aside. Drain excess grease from skillet.

    2. In the same pan used to cook the ground beef, add a tablespoon of butter. On medium-high heat, sauté the onions, peppers, and mushrooms until tender. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.

    3. Return the ground beef to the skillet. Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.

    4. Pour cornstarch into a small bowl. Slowly pour the beef broth over the cornstarch while whisking to avoid lumps from forming.

    5. Add cornstarch mixture to the skillet. Reduce to a simmer, stir and cook until liquid reduces to a thick saucy consistency, about 3 to 5 minutes.

    6. Once the sauce has thickened, turn off heat and blend in Parmigiano-Reggiano and provolone cheeses until melted.

    7. While the sauce is simmering, lightly toast the brioche buns by placing them under the broiler for 2 minutes, or until golden brown.

    8. Fill the insides of brioche buns with the sloppy Joe mixture. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

If you’re a super fan of both the sloppy Joe and Philly cheesesteak sandwich, then you’re in for a real treat as these two sandwiches collide to create an explosion of flavor in our Philly cheesesteak sloppy Joe. This irresistible dish ties in the memorable flavors of each sandwich flawlessly. The sweet and salty notes of the ketchup blend into the beef, while the slight hints of vinegary, salty flavors from the Worcheschersire sauce enhance flavors of both the meat and vegetables. The sandwich is drowning in gooey provolone cheese, traditional to the Philly cheesesteak. Although this dish is unbelievably delicious as is, you can always add your personal touches to make it your own.

When it comes to adding toppings to your Philly cheesesteak sloppy Joes, the possibilities are endless!

    • Love your veggies? They love Philly cheesesteak sloppy Joes too! Try topping your sandwich with some shredded purple cabbage, for some refreshing crunch, and a pop of color. Or, toss some red onions on top for a slight zing.
    • Add some heat by drizzling some of your favorite hot sauce, such as sriracha or tabasco over the beef – Sliced jalapeño peppers will also make your sandwich sizzle.
    • If you’d prefer a hint of sweetness, add a couple of dollops of your preferred barbecue sauce.
    • If there isn’t enough cheese for you, go ahead and add some more. Provolone and Cheese Whiz are the most traditional types of cheeses used for Philly cheesesteaks but don’t be nervous to try whatever you’d like. We’d suggest filling your brioche buns with the sloppy Joe mixture and then putting it back under the broiler for a minute to allow the extra cheese to melt.
